Red Sox vs Yankees 2007--Seasonal Thread
04/20/07 | Misterrob

Posted on 04/20/2007 8:07:32 AM PDT by misterrob

The Sox and Yankees are resuming their long standing rivalry with and a mix of old and new faces. The Sox have upgraded their team with additions of JD Drew, Julio Lugo and Dice-K. The Yankees return with changes to the starting rotation and the subtraction of Gary Sheffield. Both teams figure to compete deep into the season.

For two states without much to brag about with respect to their elected officials,

Chucky and Hidabeast vs the Flip Flopping Gigalo and the Swimmer

or

The Spitter vs Coupe Deval

Here's to another season of Yankees vs Red Sox on FR!

Fine, Fine. You hate Roger Clemens. We get it. But an old whore? That’s just a complete lack of class. But I’ve never met a Sox fans who doesn’t think that the Red Sox do everything wrong, and it’s always somebody else’s fault.

You blame Roger for leaving, like you’ll blame Babe Ruth, Wade Boggs, and Johnny Damon for selling out to the “evil empire. It’s the same thing I see from all die hard Red Sox fans. It’s always the player’s fault for selling out, it’s never the Red Sox fault for bad decisions or for treating a player like crap during his final year or two. So go ahead and continue to blame everyone else but yourselves. Yes, the Yankees make bad personnel decisions too, lie letting Sheffield get away. But atleast we don’t feel that every player who leaves the Yankees and goes to another team is a traitor a sell out. Sox fans just have this “poor us, everyone is against us attitude.” It’s pathetic.

I illustrated several instances where Roger sold his ass to the highest bidder. I talked about his mediocre record his last 4 years in Boston, I talked how he showed up fat and out of shape after the strike, I talked about how he was held accountable and how he didn’t like it. I showed how he screwed the Yankees. And you just ignore the facts.

What I didn’t mention was Roger’s set of rules that he dictates to his employer for who his team is 7-10 in the games that he starts. Now he’s going to create drama around his injuries so he can come back even bigger and better. Roger leaving meant Pedro Martinez came to the Sox and he put together a 7 year run that was outstanding. When PM came back to Fenway in 2006 he received much love. When Derek Lowe came back to Fenway for the WS ring ceremony he was cheered. Your generalization doesn’t hold.

At least Damon was honest about his intentions (even though at one time he said he wouldn’t play for NY) and frankly his leaving worked out better for the Sox. The Yankees now have a $13 million platoon player for the next two years and would dump him if they could find a taker. The Sox have a Gold Glove caliber center fielder for a lot less coin. The Sox were actually being overly generous with Damon in offering him $10 million for 4 years.

Most people who go to play for the Yankees, their next stop is Shady Green Retirement Home.

Well, here we go again. Yankees lose to Blue Jays to enter the series five games back in the loss column. Should be an interesting series.

It should be. Sox have a magic number of 11 for the division. Sox with 15 left and the Yankees 16. Sox go 8-7 the Yankees have to go 14-2.

On the other hand, the Yankees have managed to rebuild from within and you have to tip your cap to Cashman for drafting and developing the pitching they have received from the young guys. No one wants to play this team in the playoffs.

“Josh Beckett vs the Old Whore (Wonder if Roger is going to hit one of the Red Sox tonight in retaliation for Gay-Rod getting plunked?)”

Schilling v. The Texas Con Man on Sunday - assuming Roger’s blister ... I mean elbow isn’t bothering him.

Will McDonough pegged TCM the right way. Same for Mo’ Money Vaughn.

Schilling and Clemens locked up in a great game 7 duel in the 2001 series.

Today they are hangers on...

Not only is there a big baseball weekend, my Mother-in-Law is coming over on Sunday.

Can’t get much more stressful than that.

Looks like you Yankees have some good youngins in the pithing dept. this year. If you win it will happen because Cashman did it the right way. What’s up with Hughes? He isn’t looking so hot lately.

I love seeing the young Yankees. Hughes will be alright. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that I am now old enough to be the mother of these pitchers!

Matsuzaka has pitched like crap lately, but I’ve got a gut feeling he gets back on track tonight.

Boston, show NO MERCY.

Not a good start, what did he throw, 35 pitches?

He better be on a short leash tonight.

Go sox!

Looks like he's trying to find a way around that arm fatigue.

Looks like Petite’s strategy is to put Boston to sleep by not pitching to batters.
