You’re right, I should have quoted you correctly (above is your entire post that I was referring to). And yes, I know that there are families who will use lawsuits to vent their pain, or to “get even”. But even with the “/s”, your remark was callous; the blood of people’s children is still on the walls of the classroom. You seem like a reasonable person in your other posts, why not just admit it instead of trying to defend it?
***

Because before the bodies were out of the classroom, parents were screaming fault. Fault of everyone in the school, yada yada. And just because YOU don’t agree with me, doesn’t mean I’m wrong. So I will not admit something when I don’t feel I’m wrong.

I grew up in North Central Louisiana, and my friends said the same thing you did about the reason Jindal lost. Unfortunately, we, along with other States, have some folks who refuse to vote Republican because their grandfather was always a Democrat. They do the same thing because of the color of a person's skin, and I wish they could/would look beyond those things and look at the character of the person.

One of my friends in Baton Rouge sent me a radio website so I could listen to, "Edwin Edwards' Eyes"...a take-off on John Breaux. I know she's conservative, but I was surprised she sent it since her brother is married to a member of Edwards' family! If you haven't heard it, you can paste this in your Search Box and listen to it. It's got a "catchy" beat!

more biased news - this time from the Bahama Journal:

April 17, 2007
Stern Sues Lawyer
By Quincy Parker
The legal melee sparked by the death of the late American celebrity Anna Nicole Smith continues to sprout tentacles: the lawsuit filed by Ms. Smith’s lawyer Howard K. Stern against John O’Quinn – lawyer for Ms. Smith’s mother – proves even the lawyers are not above the fray.....

The weekend has come and gone without word of a custody agreement being struck between Larry Birkhead (the father of Ms. Smith’s baby) and Mrs. Arthur.

The two were to have met over the weekend, without lawyers and away from the glare of the media, to try and hash out a custody arrangement. Ms. Smith had named Mr. Stern as the child’s father, but DNA evidence has proven Mr. Birkhead to be the father.

Mr. Stern has said he won’t fight Mr. Birkhead over custody, but also that he’ll work to ensure that Mr. Birkhead gets sole custody of the child. In fact, he said on Friday that he would have already signed the formal order granting Mr. Birkhead full custody of Dannielynn, but lawyers for Mr. Birkhead and Mrs. Arthur asked the court for a continuance without that order being signed.

While she was alive, Ms. Smith vowed repeatedly that her mother, Mrs. Arthur, would have no part in her daughter’s life. The sides are to meet in the Supreme Court again on Friday.

The Insider said today that the inquest is scheduled for May 30! Not sure what this one-week postponement is about or who announced it, but we need to be prepared for that, I guess. Bah.

personal comment: one wonders why Larry hasn't alligned himself with the thompson/shelleys instead of Stern - does he have animosity towards them that they aided Anna? too bad he doesn't put that aside and get on the 'winning' team..

Lawyer Says Paternity May End House Battle

By Quincy Parker

Larry Birkhead’s confirmation as the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s infant daughter Dannielynn paves the way for an end to the legal standoff centred on the Eastern Road mansion called ‘Horizons,’ according to the lawyer for one claimant to the house’s title.

Godfrey ‘Pro’ Pinder told the Journal that his client, Ms. Smith’s ex-lover G. Ben Thompson, would "work with" Mr. Birkhead.

He has been locked in a dispute with lawyers for Howard K. Stern, Ms. Smith’s live-in lawyer, over who owns the residence where Ms. Smith and Mr. Stern lived with Dannielynn until Ms. Smith’s sudden death in February.

Mr. Stern and Dannielynn still live at Horizons.

Mr. Thompson claims he owns the home, since Ms. Smith never fulfilled the terms under which he supposedly turned it over to her, and Mr. Stern and lawyers for Ms. Smith’s estate support Ms. Smith’s claim the house was a gift.

Mr. Pinder said that the substantiation of Mr. Birkhead’s paternity claim adds a new dimension to the wrangling over the house.

"I believe that he (Mr. Birkhead) would also get temporary custody. If he gets temporary custody then he should replace Howard K. Stern in the house. You don’t need to have two fathers in the house," Mr. Pinder said.

"We shall invite Howard out of the house, and leave Larry in. We’ll work with Larry. Larry knows who the owner is; he’ll eventually probably do the right thing and turn it back over to us."

Yes, he’s now Catholic. He’s a good man. I’ve met him a few times and he is sincere and a very hard worker.

It used to be if I had on the fence friends I would tell them of my membership to Freerepublic and tell them to just check it out. I don’t do that anymore.

Me Too!!! In fact, I referred my son-in-law to FR, and I've heard him talk at family gatherings about the nutty people here on FR...

I have a cheapie mouse that does that, too! I guess from the sound of things on the “outside” - meaning the rest of FR - I should be glad I was immersed in tax paperwork for so many days and only stuck my head up for a tiny bit of reading on the VaTech original thread.

Things hadn’t gotten heated then. I’m still pretty astounded at so many people (in the media and probably elsewhere) thinking that the logical thing to do is always expect someone who has just shot somebody to go shoot someone else a couple of hours later.

Normally, murderers are all about getting far, far away and not drawing attention to themselves. This was a very, very rare occurrence and not one that could have been anticipated in any way, from what I can tell.

Of course, then I think of Darren Mack killing his wife, with his friend and young daughter right in the same house, then going out for coffee and a while later taking a sniper shot in trying to assassinate a judge.

It’s all very sad, but I don’t see how some of these crimes could be prevented, except with a few well-timed lobotomies.

Get Buzzed: Larry Birkhead’s baby a ‘happy tot’

Angie Fenton
Courier-Journal

Larry Birkhead may not yet have been granted custody of the baby he fathered with Anna Nicole Smith, but he’s already getting used to daddy duty.

The child is in the Bahamas under the care of Howard K. Stern.

“But my brother is there every day, all day,” said Larry’s sister, Judy Birkhead, who lives in Louisville. “He’ll stay (in the Bahamas) until they release her. And she’ll come home with him.”

Birkhead currently is battling Smith’s mother, Virgie Arthur, who wants guardianship of the 7-month-old if anything should happen to him.

The entertainment photographer wants his own family, most of whom live in Louisville, to be granted that responsibility in the event that he dies.

A gag order prevents both of them from talking to the press.

“We feel confident that everything will work out,” Judy Birkhead said, “but it’s been very stressful for him. You can imagine your baby being taken away from you and then having to keep fighting for her.”

Dannielynn’s sunny disposition keeps Larry Birkhead in good spirits, said his sister.

“She’s such a happy baby. She has two little teeth on the bottom; she’s cutting teeth on the top. She looks identical to Larry,” Judy Birkhead said.

“She’s such a good baby. She lays right down and puts her thumb in her mouth. I was with him the first time he saw her. … I don’t know what it is about him, but she looks at him and just cracks up. She’s so happy.”

Larry Birkhead’s family is doing its darndest to make sure he stays upbeat too, Judy Birkhead said.

“All of us are back home, so Larry is kind of by himself right now. Somebody from our family is talking to him at least every hour on the hour,” Judy Birkhead said.

“He has people looking out for him,” she said.
