Cockatoo adopts a bowl of Creme Eggs

Like every devoted mother bird, Pippa the silver crested cockatoo is ready to defend her clutch of eggs to the death.

Sadly for her, however, they will never hatch. For Pippa has adopted a bowl containing 20 Cadbury's Creme Eggs, which her owner Geoff Grewcock had intended to hand to friends and family over Easter. The 17-year-old bird squawks and flaps whenever anyone approaches. "When I first saw her perched there I thought it was hilarious but now I'm a bit worried about her," he said at his home in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to nickpick. But she’s a bird. Animals don’t have complex emotions, just instincts. She’s just doing what she thinks is right.

I hear you but.........that instinct can be strong and cause distress if interupted sometimes. I don’t know much about birds though.

The urge to nest is very strong in some birds. She’s at a good breeding age, they could easily find her a hubby :)

All I’m trying to say is that that bird is happy doing what it thinks is right.

Is she going to be happy when she’s shooed away and someone takes her eggs though?:’)

She’s not a freeper, she’s a bird. She won’t know or care.

I had a precious little peekapoo that suddenly became fixated on a small yellow squeaky toy like that. She would take it everywhere she went and became very, very distressed when I moved it or held it out of the way. I got creeped out and put it in a drawer and she sat on the floor and cried and stared at the drawer for hours. She was about 5 years old. I believe I just never took it out of the drawer and threw it away ultimately. The connection she had with that toy was so strong I could actually feel it.

Your first photo reminded me of this wonderful photo essay of a true story of the bird that challenged the tigers in their 'den'!

I hope the cockatoo's owner has some chocolate cigars on hand when those Cadbury eggs hatch.
