I don't know if any FReepers are members of this great group, but if you are and are reading this, please accept my gratitude.
My husband was one of the members of this particular flight, and the show of support is something he says he will never forget. After a long and trying day of goodbyes, he said it was great to be greeted by such wonderful people. Being able to call home was a wonderful bonus, as he had left his cell phone behind, and we had not thought to buy him a phone card before he left. My children were miserable that day, and hearing from their dad so soon made such a difference to them.
After the past stories of the actions of more than a few bad apples, it is good to hear that good things also happen in the Pine Tree State!
I am not a member of this fine group but I live 2 hours from Bangor. I have several time been there when Troops were stoping by.
It is an honor to stand in the greeting line. I didnot live in Maine when this tradition started with the Gulf War but certainly knew about it in Calif.
I am able to post on freerepublic from my email in Al Taqaddum Iraq and wanted to tell my wife USMC Wife6869 that I love her and miss her and appreciate her posting on my behalf, hopefully she sees this.
They take pictures and post them online...need an indoor smoking sight...
site...two things at once...
Oh wow. I just woke up and saw this. I miss you so much :)!!! This is such a great surprise. Hey all, meet my husband!
Hi husband/Hi wife! Nice to meet you! And welcome to FR! My dh is a Marine Reservist. He’s activated in conus since May 2004 (w/7 months off tucked in there). How sweet it is that communication is so much easier than it was 12 years ago.
Anyway...carry on. Just wanted to say hi and send along my welcome. :)
