June 1957 Residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma are enjoying their citys anniversary, called Tulsarama! Most every city around the country enjoys parties; its a big tradition throughout the United States.
Tulsa representatives decided they needed something unique and different in order to compete with Oklahoma City. They decided to entomb an automobile in a time capsule, using a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere as the car of choice.

LOL..I remember the Chrysler push button automatic transmission...My roomie in college had one...the most fun was to put it in neutral, rev the engine..then push the DRIVE button..and hope the tranny didn't drop to the ground..
And they're a dime a dozen.
But in the days before pollution equipment and with few electronics to run, even the six cylinder '57 Chevy could move!
I learned to drive on my father's 1960 Belvedere with push button transmission and fins - I LOVED THAT CAR!!
Christine was a FURY.
I'm hoping to get to go to this...I'll try to get some pictures and post them.

"buried in a concrete tomb"
Must be one heck of a tomb. You'd need a crane to get the lid off.
Low mileage.
My brother was a Chevy guy and had a '56 with a six. He seemed to enjoy adjusting the valves by ear.
Pretty cool!
Are you in the running to win it all?
My thoughts exactly!
Amateur restoration.
Actually, probably won't be too bad. I'm predicting easily restorable.
I've seen cars buried in the earth itself keep their structure pretty well. I'm talking cars buried in the '20s and released maybe 50 years later.
The '57 Chev came with a nice 289 cube V-8. Put the power pack option on and it was a hot car. Could even get fuel injection, but it was mechanical and didn't always perform that well.
LOL that's acquiescence to all the safety NAZIs.
The pics will be appreciated. Especially if something blows up or if the crane crushes some people or something cool like that. :-)
Ok! If that happens I'll be sure and get some close-ups! With the jedis posing nearby, of course.
;-)
I am thinking of the Plymouths from '55 to '59. Very few left.
Huh?
The car should be in decent shape. Won't be perfect, but if it's really IN the ground, without any portal to outside, I can't see it being bad.
Unless, God forbid, the concrete overhead collapsed and then you have a total mess!
The company nearly went out of business due to their product rusting to dust in those years.
Do you recall when they came out with the 327 SS? Seemed funny to be in a full-sized car with a floor shift.
