My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

What a cute kittie! Happy St. Patrick's everyone. Well I just finished a poem, and while it's not about St. Patrick's Day per se, it is kind of Irishy sounding.

I was looking for some silverware, and all the stores near my house had was large sets, and I just wanted a few pieces. Well, around here, we have attic sales and nick knack sales going on all the time, and I passed a sidewalk table that had a bunch of silver place settings on it.

And I mean real silver, it was really high quality, but it was just single pieces from many different sets. And then I realized, what's even the best silver spoon or fork worth if it's just by itself? Well, almost nothing, because what can you do with them, set a whole table with mismatched pieces? Well, we creatives in the Lair might get a kick out of something like that, but most people won't, so the price for this single expensive silver spoon? Fifty cents!

And looking it over I pondered and pondered it until I put together the next little ditty, which, in honor of St. Pat's we can pretend was an Irish spoon! Here, let me grab it off the hard drive and post it up next.

A St. Pat's poem about an Irish silver spoon. ;-)

Of Silver Spoons

On a table of wood
in an age of expansion
on a tray made of silver
in an impressive mansion

laid a spoon deftly made
brightly polished it shone
in the late of the day
by fruit jams and some scones

a long way it came
where of mines and great miles
to be where it was
amidst plenty and smiles

The sea, later years
it crossed and forgot
it traveled through forests
through dry deserts hot

over mountains and plains
forgetting the same
losing its set
till singly remained

one silver spoon
without match or pair
if it could tell tales!
where of and of where!

On a table of wood
in a well weathered box
in an land of contentment
in a small alley shop

laid a spoon made of silver
once polished and bright
now tarnished and dull
in box marked "Alright"

mixed with knives and with forks
and all other kinds
of settings for tables
and odd kitchen finds

lay the one silver spoon
then bought by one man
to stir tea and coffee
in a contented land

Hi Meg, thank you for the sparklies in the Lair.

Snow is swirling all about
no fishermen fishing for trout
the plows have shoved and scrapped it back
the sidewalks shoveled and salted for safety.

I've turned on the tube some movies to groove on
then sit up and look out the window to see
mother natures trick on me.

This morn the trees were all flocked
from head to toe with white beauty to show
lining the black limbs hither and yon
a time warp going back to another land.

The Ides of March came and went
March came in like a lamb now
not well spent, as her fury rages
on from dusk to dawn, whilst I gaze
out upon one white lawn.

;)

Thank you both, I really enjoyed writing it.

I thought I was just writing about a spoon, but after I finished it and turned around and looked it over, I thought that one doesn't exactly need a degree in psychology to notice it's also a not too subtle reflection of the themes I've been living recently! The traveling, the memories, the solitude, and the return to a land of contentment.

I guess I really bonded with that spoon! It must have been on a Muse's table somewhere in the distant past! :-)

I think so sb, there is a charm about the poetry and the spoon. You have brought so many plesant memories to me, I have a collection of silver spoons from around the world. Most are very fine silver as your spoon. You really got so much more that just a spoon. So much more.

The Star Watcher

Tonight moon fire strikes us
and time is his reward
waiting to awaken
the watcher of stars...

For we still love
with desire
looking beyond our life
we crossed the planets
to touch our personal heaven.

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.

Your poem reminds me of people I love that are now gone..

I was thinking of my mismatched silver serving fork, gravy ladle; and table spoons..and the family gatherings they served at my grandmother's, my great aunt's and my mother's and that now serve mine.

They were used when living was easy and when times were tough..during the great depression, for meals after a funeral and great family celebrations.

A silver punch ladle has served at not only our celebrations but a small community's.

I always love to get them out,use them and add another remembrance.
I am glad your journey brought you to contentment..It is such a lovely place to dwell!

I agree, I think starbase touched a very tender place in our hearts.

I inherited the small spoons used in Finland when coffee is served along with the Arabia China. They are very small cups and saucers, very fine, thin China.

These are used only for company or special occassions. I treasure them.

I think a table set with mismatched silver and China is very interesting, it's done in chic surroundings- just breaking away from the traditional everything must match trend.
