I.V.: If necessary, meperidine may be given i.v., but the injection should be given very slowly, preferably in the form of a diluted solution. Rapid i.v. injection of narcotic analgesics, including meperidine, increases the incidence of adverse reactions; severe respiratory depression, apnea, hypotension, peripheral circulatory collapse, and cardiac arrest have occurred. Meperidine should not be administered i.v. unless a narcotic antagonist and the facilities for assisted or controlled respiration are immediately available. When meperidine is given parenterally, especially i.v., the patient should be lying down.

I.M.: Meperidine should be injected well within the body of a large muscle.
Rumor is Perper was asking if Anna normally used alcohol swabs before injecting herself with Demerol. So this tells me that he found an injection site (pin prick hole) that she could reach on her body and that the injection site was NOT swabbed with a alcohol pad. He knows that Demerol was what was injected at the found injection site because it must have not spread throughout the muscle under the injection site because their is claim that it may have been injected within 2 minutes of her death. (meaning it did not spread throughout body because she died shortly after it was injected) They suspect that 75ml (75cc) of Demerol was injected in to her. 75ml of Demerol is not that high of a dose for an adult - typical dosage for a Demerol injection is 50ml to 100ml.
IMO... Demerol is not what killed her, but it shows that someone may have been injecting her with whatever to cause her to die faster or the were doing it thinking they were helping her or she injected herself.
There has to be a used syringe in the hotel room - I have no idea if they found one or not. If they did not find one with Demerol residue on it, then someone is trying to cover something up. (as we know)

A number of the narcotic drugs have the affect of depressing respiration. If the Demerol dose along wasn't enough to kill her, it didn't need to be. No telling what else she was taking that would have acted similarly to the Demerol. Perhaps - if the rumor turns out to be true - a Demerol injection could've been the final blow to her system in combination with other drugs.

Demerol level would show up on drug screens and could be detected in tissue at the injection site.

That would indicate an accidental or intentional intravenous or intra-arterial injection. When giving an injection, after inserting the needle the syringe plunger should be pulled back to test if the needle tip is in muscle tissue or vessel. If this procedure was not done, 75 mg. of Demerol directed quickly into the circulatory system would most likely lead to respiratory depression and death if CPR was not immediately performed.

The demerol would have spread via the circulatory system within minutes.

The dosage is milligrams (mg) not cc's or ml's.. huge difference.
Syringe evidence, or lack of, could prove CRUCIAL to the case if toxicology screens indicate presence of Demerol in levels incompatible with any found evidence of recent oral ingestion.
