Anna Nicole Smith: Overdose Caused Sudden Death
By Cris Bergman
Mar 26, 2007
Police finally have revealed what caused the sudden death of Anna Nicole Smith six weeks ago. The former Playboy playmate died of an overdose, according to police. Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perper and Seminole police Chief Charlie Tiger announced the autopsy results Monday morning at a press conference.
Anna Nicole Smith: Overdose Caused Sudden Death
Smith died from an ''accidental overdose with no criminal elements present,'' Tiger said. Perper said that Smith had been taking a wide variety of drugs that included anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medication, Tylenol, weight-loss drugs, muscle relaxants, methadone, and injected human growth hormone and vitamin B-12 in her thigh.

So who injected her? TMZ notes that some of the drugs Anna had taken were prescribed to her -- some under an alias and some prescribed to other people but intended for her. TMZ first reported that a Beverly Hills doctor sent prescriptions to Anna's Bahamas address but they were prescribed for an unknown person. Dr. Perper says the injection that caused the buttock infection did not in and of itself cause her death. It is unclear who administered the injection that broke the abscess open, but it was not the linchpin of her death.
The newsroom at TMZ also notes that Smith could have survived had she sought medical treatment. Anna's medications were prescribed "by a number of doctors," according to Dr. Perper. It is unclear if each doctor knew what the others were prescribing.

The Associated Press reports that the actress had been suffering from stomach flu days before her death. She had a high fever, diarrhea, and was vomiting. When Smith had arrived to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on February 5, she had a fever of at least 105 degrees and refused to go to a hospital emergency room, Dr. Perper said.
Instead, Smith was given an ice bath in her hotel room by her handlers that eventually lowered her temperature to 97 degrees.

Dr. Perper could not determine the precise time of death. She was alive at 10:00 AM and was in distress at 1:30 PM, but the exact time could not be pinpointed.

Is everyone just in shock...place seems to have cleared out?
FYI...MSNBC is about to do an interview with Duncan Hunter when they return from a commercial break.
Not shocked here, but very SICK.
What bothers me about all this, is that it seems most of what came out of Perper's mouth and is accredited to Perper, is like 'heresay'...he just spits out exactly what he's 'heard' from others. What proof does he have that anything they've told him is true?
Like the story about the near drowning? He ONLY knows what was told to him and at one point even alluded to the possibility of THAT having been a suicide attempt? But then stated, "She thanked the one who saved her". Oh Really?
Because according to Perper, no other sleep meds worked for her. I'd like to know where he got that information or did he just believe whatever was told to him?
Thank you!
I heard...maybe it was Moe...say that she apparently just passed out while in the pool on a raft or something.
It really sound like he was just working to see if it was suicide or accidental. It sounds like he just didn't give much attention to the homicide possibility. Maybe, the FBI wanted the suicide option to be eliminated as they pursue homicide charges. Possibly, HKS has been playing up the suicide angle.
IDK...just a thought.
You bet...your boy is up now!
Does it seem like Court TV girl is sneering as she asks her questions??
ET don't phone, just go home!
