Web Extra Video: Anna Nicole Autopsy Results Expected
MIAMI (AP) -- The weeks after Anna Nicole Smith's death were filled with public courtroom drama and private whispers about what might have killed the former Playboy Playmate.
On Monday, the county medical examiner planned to reveal the truth.
The office had delayed releasing Smith's autopsy results because of additional evidence, still not publicly released, about what had left the model unresponsive Feb. 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.
Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perper's initial examination revealed no serious injuries and no evidence, either in Smith's stomach or her bloodstream, that she had taken large amounts of prescription medication. Perper said prescription drugs, but no illegal drugs, were found in Smith's hotel room. He wouldn't identify them.
The initial examination also found signs of inflammation in Smith's heart. Perper said it was "something which looks a little bit unusual" but "may be nothing."
Smith had arrived at the Hard Rock on Feb. 5 and planned to leave four days later aboard a new yacht that her companion Howard K. Stern was arranging to buy. She was seldom seen outside her room during her stay: She was said to be suffering from a stomach flu before she died.
Because her death was so sudden, and because her 20-year-old son Daniel died under suspicious circumstances five months earlier, there has been speculation about possible criminal activity surrounding the deaths.
Perper said he knew of no criminal investigation into Smith's death. The Seminole Police Department is investigating because the casino is on tribal land.
An inquest into Daniel's death is scheduled to start Tuesday in the Bahamas, where he died.
Smith, 39, grew up in Texas and went from topless dancer to Playboy Playmate of the Year, Guess jeans model and bride of 89-year-old oilman J. Howard Marshall II. She took her fight for Marshall's estimated $500 million fortune as far as the Supreme Court, and the ongoing battle could make her infant daughter, Dannielynn, very wealthy. Stern and two other men have claimed to be the baby's father.
People murder for much less money than Anna had. (Scott Peterson).
When KE's "role" was revealed, it took away 90% of "accidental"...even by Howard's hand. Howard and KE knew EXACTLY what they were doing.
Good morning - did I hear correctly that the Seminole police will also be at the pressor?
I think it has already been said - but Mark Hatten said - on the day before Anna died - that Howard tried to kill him in 2000 with an overdose of Morphine - he woke up 3 days later in an ice bath and Daniel told him that Howard had been injecting him with other drugs during that time.
What's your take on him and this story?
Sounds real to me - since he said this stuff before Anna died.
I'm not sure....but it sounds like what occurred in the OJ case....shortly before the dramatic chase.
compiled from video/written sources...
it's hours until Perper holds his press conference - let's look back at a few choice quotes.....who do you believe?
MARK STEINES: *****She never indicated that [she was suicidal] to me.*****
MARK STEINES: She was depressed quite often. In fact, after the interview last week, in our conversations with ******Howard, he told us****** she never really, really recovered from the final part of that interview where she was talking about Daniel.
MARK STEINES - on Today Show about a week later: "...The minute I walked into the house, you could just feel the despair that lived there. I left that interview seeing a fighter, someone who`s very weak, someone who is very fragile right now, who`s been through a lot. But also, ****Anna Nicole Smith is a fighter*****."
EROSHEVICH: [Eroshevich stated Anna] 'often' talked about suicide. Eroshevich [claims Anna asked] , "Is there any way for me to join DANIEL?" Eroshevich said "..it was a constant battle for Anna between those urges and her love for her newborn child."
MARK STEINES - She did have a fever. I can tell you, the last few days of her life, when she came here, she had a fever when they got here.
Before they came, ******Howard was actually suffering from the -- from the flu.******
MARK STEINES: When they got into the hotel room behind me, there was a point where Anna's fever had reached 105 degrees, at which time they put her in an ice bath. This was when her private nurse was with her, Howard was there in the room, to get her temperature back down.
(ET - KHRISTINE EROSHEVICH -- tells ET she had been running a fever in the days before her death, which reached as high as 105°. She was given anti-viral medication and her temperature dropped below 100° -- *****allowing her to fly***** to Hollywood)
(BIG MOE on Greta : So we picked her up and put her in, like, some water, put some ice in the water and broke her temperature, and the temperature went back to 98. And then she took some flu medicine, which was prescribed by a doctor, a local doctor. I don't know who the doctor was...)
MARK STEINES: Her temperature went back down, they got her out of the ice bath, she was OK.
(BIG MOE to Greta: So we monitored all night and the next day, and her fever never really broke I mean, went up anymore, so...VAN SUSTEREN: When you say "we," who's "we"? BIG MOE: Well, her friends that was in the room. It was me, Howard, and her long-time friend, Chris Rasovitch (ph).) (note: didn't know who the dr was)
(Bouncer at HARD ROCK: According to the New York Daily News, a bouncer from the Hard Rock Hotel says Anna Nicole was wasted early Tuesday morning. She couldn't walk on her own," he says. "Her bouncer was on one side and her lawyer friend on the other.")
MARK STEINE: The next day, which would have been Wednesday, Anna was in the bathroom, she slipped, she fell. They heard something.
(note: what happened to Tuesday? was she also iced Tuesday?)
(BIG MOE on Greta: VAN SUSTEREN: Tuesday, February 6, any better? BIG MOE: She was a lot better. I mean, you know, she was a lot better. Still sick, though. You know, fever was maybe, maybe 100, but controllable, you know? And she would wake up, you know, eat, walk around the room, and then, you know, go back to sleep...VAN SUSTEREN: But wouldn't leave the suite. Or I mean, she wouldn't go down...BIG MOE: No.)
(STAR details: As the needle-caused infection took over her body, she began vomiting, had severe diarrhea and could not urinate. On February 6, a Tuesday, Anna spent the whole day in bed. She could not keep fluids down. She was becoming severely dehydrated..)
MARK STEINE: [on wednesday) They went to her and she was in her tub with**** no water, nothing else*****. And they had asked her if she had fallen, and she seemed a little bit out of it. But they checked her for any bruising or contusions or swelling and there was nothing.
(EROSHEVICH: "She was ****taking a bath**** and she was ****shampooing her hair***** and I had been with her in the morning. That was Wednesday. "I was going back and forth, saying goodbye and she was crying, and she said, 'Please don't leave me,' and I left.")
(EROSHEVICH: "She got out of the tub, *****she had a nice meal*****. Everything was fine. Then she went to bed. And that led to yesterday, when after taking a nap, I believe, she never came to and never woke up. )
(EROSHEVICH: "I called that night (Wednesday) and was able to *****find out what she had eaten... and she was doing well******. I called in the morning too.)
(STAR reports: On Wednesday, February 7, Anna seemed somewhat better, but she wasn't, the source said. "She was still vomiting and suffering diarrhea," said the source. "Again, she spent the whole day in bed, as the abscess continued to grow. She was in such pain, she just wanted to sleep.")
(Us Magazine report: an hotel employee said, Anna looked extremely bloated when she vomited out something white before having a seizure early this afternoon. The reaction was so violent that people in the hotel thought she had some tragic food poisoning. But we were told it was a drug overdose by the people who saw it. )
(BIG MOE on Greta: I stayed that night prior, on the 7th, and woke up the next morning around, I don't know, 9:30, 10:00, and I went in the room to check on them. VAN SUSTEREN: They're sharing a room. BIG MOE: Yes VAN SUSTEREN: She seemed how? BIG MOE: She was I saw her moving around a little bit and she seemed tired, she was sleeping.)
(STAR reporting: Sometime overnight on February 7, Anna ingested the sleeping medication chloral hydrate. The drug is extremely potent. The dose was too much and in fact it was a toxic level)
(From 'The Mail", London: A source said: "Her partner Howard K Stern said Smith ******had a high temperature on Wednesday night*******. She was suffering from flu-like symptoms upon her arrival at the Hard Rock hotel on Monday, but ****her fever skyrocketed by Wednesday****. "That afternoon, she fell in the bathroom and hit her head. She said she was feeling fine, had a meal and went back to bed. The same source claims that Smith had taken what was referred to as a "childrens sedative", and had "kept passing out" before her death. )
( EROSHEVICH: "...My first thought was something terrible happened; some accident occurred; she's sick. I was thinking of ordinary causes of death -- I didn't think of suicide. ******However...how much can any person take? I think she was questioning that.*******)
(EROSHEVICH: "I'd like something sweet and simple; something to tell [baby] DANNIELYNN," she says about the true cause of death. "Something to let her feel that ******her mom didn't want to leave her; her mom wanted to be with her and couldn't help it.***** That would be the best.")
(STERN on ET: "People don't understand that when Anna lost Daniel and once we started planning his funeral, she was forced to think about her own mortality. She talked about what she wanted for herself. I am the only one who really is trying to carry out what Anna wanted for her funeral.")
(STERN on ET: "I know what she wanted, and I'm going to carry out what she wanted," Howard says. "After Daniel died, we had these discussions, and I know what Anna wanted.")
(STERN in court: "She talked of death really from the time that I met her. He continued, "Anna in a lot of ways thought she was going to die young and thought she was going to be like Marilyn Monroe. She [also] thought she was going to die giving birth to Dannielynn." )
(STERN in court: "She died emotionally when Daniel died, Stern said. She had real problems accepting Daniel was gone. She had people open the casket and she was just inconsolable and was hugging him and wanted to go down with him.)
(STERN on ET: "I had a day to mourn, and then it turned to the [legal] things happening here," says Howard. "I have a single focus.")
(STAR reports: Preliminary analysis indicated the cause of death was systemic sepsis syndrome, a lethal blood infection. It was caused by the abscess of the left buttock. Further investigation revealed the fatal level of chloral hydrate.)
LEVINE on CNN: LEVIN: "..I go back to the money issue. And I think one of the most stunning things I've seen since this -- this all started, we got the death certificate today. And if you look at how Howard Stern is referred to on that death certificate, you would think that it might say partner, partner in life, something like that. It says nominated executor. "
" And we contacted the people who were responsible for the certificate and they say they put down what they're told to put down. So Howard K. Stern, the day she died or the day after, because that's when this was signed, said he was the nominated executor. I find that a stunning way of referring to the relationship. )

""""People murder for much less money than Anna had."""
Also, people murder for vengeance, hatred, perceived abuse, jealousy.
We have questioned how a so-called, self-respecting young male lawyer could have endured Anna's demeaning behavior towards him. i.e. bedding other men and women "in your face", treating him like a bus-boy. Doling out his 'allowance' and behaving like a looney toon in public.
With the maturing of her son, pregnancy and drug needs - HK$ turned all her "bad" behavior against her - with the benefit of KE the "doctor" who was caught up in something way beyond her medical competence and ethics.
Howard should have never said: "If I had killed Daniel, do you really think Anna would protect me"?? Who said she was protecting him??
"Protecting Him" is the "marriage" and "father" on the birth certificate.
Yes, she was protecting him....but it was about to end at the inquest because of the statement of Anna's LOSS OF MEMORY AT THE SCENE OF DANNY'S DEATH.
awwwwwwww...very cute (claps)
funny
The inquest into the death of Daniel Smith last September will take place before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez. (Journal file photo)
Daniel Smith Inquest Starts Tomorrow
By Quincy Parker
LA photographer Larry Birkhead has asked to give evidence at the Coroners Inquest that begins Tuesday into the death of Daniel Wayne Smith, who died suddenly at Doctors Hospital while visiting his mother Anna Nicole Smith, and newborn sister Dannielynn last September.
Mr. Birkhead, who contends that hes the babys real father, is one arm of the three-way battle for custody of Dannielynn, and appeared to have won what he considered a victory in the proceedings when Supreme Court Justice Stephen Isaacs requested a paternity test on the child.
He is seeking proof that he is Dannielynns father, and if that is proven, he is expected to get custody of the child and sources close to him say he will sue Ms. Smiths live-in lawyer, Howard K. Stern.
Mr. Stern is listed on Dannielynns birth certificate as her father, and has had custody of the child since Ms. Smiths sudden death on February 8 in a Florida hotel room.
According to Mr. Birkheads camp, if he is the father, hell sue Mr. Stern for "substantial" damages because Mr. Stern has been "denying his rights as the father."
Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez, who will preside over the inquest, told the Journal Mr. Birkhead might be called as a witness.
"I really dont know the extent of the evidence that hell be giving, but he has expressed an interest in appearing as well," Mr. Gomez said.
The chief magistrate has already said that Mr. Sterns testimony would be key to the proceedings. Besides Ms. Smith, he was the only person present in the hospital room during the time Daniel is believed to have died.
Broward County Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua Perper has announced that he will disclose the results of his autopsy on Ms. Smiths remains, and the results of the toxicology report on Monday.
The jury in the Smith inquest will be charged with finding the legal cause of the 20-year-olds death. That will be either a mirror of the medical cause of death, or a combination of the medical cause of death and other circumstances.
At the end of the inquest, once the jurors have determined the legal cause of death, they will make recommendations as to procedure going forward like the jury in the inquest into the January 17 prison breakout recommended murder charges be filed against a prison guard.
The Bahamian coroner is a creature of the law, not a pathologist like the US coroner. It will be Mr. Gomezs duty to guide the jury in their deliberations.
Winston Saunders, the first chief coroner in The Bahamas, had a history of being actively involved in inquests over which he presided, demanding that witnesses clarify evidence for the court and jury, sometimes questioning witnesses himself.
His successors, William Campbell and Linda Virgill, have continued that tradition of active participation.
Mr. Gomez told the Journal that he too will be an active participant in the proceedings.
"Yes, but Ill try to be as impartial as possible. I wont be taking any sides with any particular witness. The court has to appear to be impartial you cant appear to be prosecutorial against a particular person," he said.
"You must be impartial."
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I needed that - and a second pot of coffee!
LOL
since he said this stuff before Anna died
maybe his comments, helped Anna come to the conclusion that Stern was responsible for Daniel. the 'nanny/maid' allegedly said they had a few drag-out fights over Daniels' death - very loud; would not be surprised for her to be a witness at the bahamas inquest
I found that comment to be very revealing as well. Why would he even say such a thing unless he's speaking from a place of guilt?
Oh, that would be simply delicious!
