The Hobbit Hole XXXIII - And the brook that leaps from hill to plain...

Posted on 03/08/2007 2:40:27 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Need birdseed and cat food, or I’m likely to have a riot on my hands by tomorrow morning.

You know, there's a circle of life kind of solution...

Heh, even with the Zo, the loaves come out kinda funky sometimes. I don’t care what it looks like, as long as it tastes good.

Too messy...

Though...it may come to that. I got the bird seed, but not cat food. Decided against the grocery store brands...the only “quality” ones they had make Halvah barf. Strangely, I like to avoid that. So the kitties wait until I make it by the feed store tomorrow. Fortunately they still have some in their bowl.

What you need is a few good taters.

Just finished watching the latest episode of Dr. Who that I downloaded last night.

They’re bringing back The Master.

I just had to tell someone.

I just had to tell someone.

And in that vein, I'm reading Gerald Seymour's latest book Rat Run. He is an English writer who pens wonderful political thrillers dealing with current day events. Lots of intrigue and double-dealing with MI-6, SIS and other countries secret services and the bad guys. He runs three to five stories concurrently and then seamlessly brings them all together.

I really, really, like reading this man's work. LSA

heh, nope, ‘rat run’ refers to ‘the maze of dark and narrow back streets and alleys the bad guys are forever scurrying down’ until..

Mmm. I'll have to look for his books at the library. I'm always in the mood for a good spy novel. Started out reading Alistair McLean while in high school. Good stuff.

I'm going to start reading Tony Hillerman's books in chronological order. I like the duo of Lt. Joe Leaphorn and Tribal policeman Jim Chee.

I do hope you are able to find him and, more importantly, you enjoy his books. The Unknown Soldier and Traitor's Kiss are two of his latest works and they are excellent.

OB has alway enjoyed reading Tony Hillerman. LSA

I like Tony Hillerman a lot, though I have to be in the right mood for 'em. ;-) They're not quite as easy reading for me, I think because there's so much talk of the area (which I like), which means it takes a bit of effort to picture it all. I've really only read his more recent books, though, like very late eighties forward. Nothing from before Jim Chee's time. The earliest, I believe, are just Leaphorn. Also have a handful of Alistair MacLean books... Ice Station Zebra could still give me nightmares if I let it.

Spoiler, just in case. Let me see...I'm claustrophobic. So...how about reading a book about guys in a submarine. Oh...wait...let's make it a submarine under impassible ice! Yeah! Now how do you feel? Wait - it gets better! We'll toss in a FIRE in the submarine, too! With no way out! FUNSIES!

The weather folks said it was going to be warm and sunny today.

This, to me, does not look like sun. :-\

Oh the sun is up there, same as always :~)

I'm hoping to get the rest of the pasture mowed, so I don't mind it being cool.

Here's a grab bag of miscellaneous pictures from the last several days...

First, some does near the beach house... More curious than cautious about me and my camera :~)

And while I'm still not impressed with the impatiens by the front walk (I don't think it helps that animals keep trodding on them) These out by the big tree in the yard are starting to look pretty. :~)

And finally... hubby napping with the monster... He's really a nice content, easy going puppy. Hubby wants one now ;~)

I want to ride to work again, a different way (yes, I'm pathetic), but I'm afraid it's gonna rain.

I need to mow the back yard, too, so it'd be nice if it at least warmed up briefly so I could be sure it's dry enough. Wet is more of an issue back there. Up front it turns into a dust mine. :-\

So ecurbh likes having cute fuzzy helpless things around? Heh...

It is a very cute monster.

I don’t think it’s actually going to rain. Not much of significance anyway. I think it’s just overcast.

If you go finding new bike routes, be careful where you turn, we may be out in the pasture and not near the phone ;~)

Oh dear...

Very funny.

This wouldn’t be a route I’d get lost on. If it had been nice yesterday, I was thinking about trying that same Delphi ride again, though...which woulda been bad if I’d gotten lost. ;-)

I can always go back the way I came, so long as it isn’t getting dark. ;-)

I’m probably just gonna ride to work, though, like I said...and it’s a route I know pretty well now...
