The Hobbit Hole XXXIII - And the brook that leaps from hill to plain...

Posted on 03/08/2007 2:40:27 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Evening - the ‘steekin’ varmints’ are most assuredly grillable and quite tasty. The meat generally quite lean and needs frequent basting.

Glad to hear you made it out of the attic unscathed. We had’nt heard from you in a while and hoped your emergency transponder was close at hand.

In other news...there apparently are beautiful Russian women waiting to meet ME!!.

I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with ‘em, though.

Wish I could win the Irish lottery again instead.

The present will be if Jr. takes it without my prompting, or just having to do it myself.

My youngest brother, slightly older than Jr., apparently a) rear-ended a car and b) got a speeding ticket. All in one week. And he’s still living at home and it’s not his car.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad!

He does have a job. I guess that’s something. :-\

Oooops...

We just got home, we were up at the beach house today, helping them get ready for some company next week. Everything’s all pruned, mowed and whacked.

Wondered what was going on with you - your front gate is open.

Oops...didn’t latch it ‘cause I was going to go back out to the feed store for birdseed - I’m OUT - but I got sidetracked. And I guess it came open in all this wind.

Have you guys eaten? Want ribs? I have five big ones...I’m doing the pre-grill simmer method I found on-line, and they’re just about done that. Was going to put some barbecue sauce on ‘em and grill ‘em in half an hour or so.

Oh - that would have been good... but I was having my fortnightly KFC craving and we got a bucket on the way home... now we’re stuffed!

OK, just figured I’d offer. ;-) They’ll also make good (if a bit untidy) work lunches.

Hopefully it doesn’t start storming before I get ‘em cooked. Kind of changeable out there. Had at least one downpour earlier when I was in Olympia.

It is rather unsettled out there isn’t it?

Yeah...I shoulda mowed the backyard today, but I wasn’t sure what it was going to do. Never went for a ride either. In this wind, it’d be scary. Did pick up a mirror, though. It’s pretty nifty - fits in the end of the bar, and it adjusts like a car mirror in all directions.

My bread is now baking - woo-hoo! Can’t wait to see how it turns out...

Or doesn’t, as the case may be. :-\

Vey good organizing there! I packed up four more boxes of craft, sewing, painting stuff from the basement today. I’m beginning to see gaps in places that haven’t seen daylight in years!

What kind of bread machine did you get? I haven’t done bread in mine for a while, but it shore is good stuff!

It’s a Hitachi. I have no clue if that’s a good brand or not, but it was the cleanest looking one of the ones at the thrift store, and the only one that had a manual with it.

They also had a Magic Chef and...something else, can’t remember what.

They said if it doesn’t work as expected, I can exchange it within the first week. So if this doesn’t turn out...I can try one of the others and see if I can’t find a manual on-line.

Mmmm... the Colonel’s chicken!! LOVE that stuff, especially the Extra Krispy which is the WORST, nutrition wise. But then I don’t go to KFC lookin for nutrition. ;o)

I sprang for a Zojirushi several years ago. It was a good purchase! We’ve used it a lot, and SirKit loves all the different breads I’ve tried. I even hauled it down to Fort Morgan AL last October, when we spent the month there. He didn’t want to go without fresh bread for all that time. I didn’t mind; there was room in the truck for it.

I figured I’d give a cheap one a try, and then if I like it...maybe at least keep an eye out for a good used one.

It’s done! Smells good, at least. Though they sure do make funny looking loafs! I’m going to let it cool just slightly and then try it.

And the coals are heating for the ribs...

Ribs were gooood! We’ll have to do those sometime.

Off to *town* despite the lateness of the hour. Need birdseed and cat food, or I’m likely to have a riot on my hands by tomorrow morning.

The things I do for my critters...
