Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Heh, good idea about the mix and attached cookie cutter. It gives the recipient the ‘joy’ of doing all that rolling and cutting and making wonderful memories for their own family. ;o)
Huh...I dunno. I must have slept through it.
I dreamed, of all things, that I went a few times with my younger siblings to a restaurant where they served Sun Chips and cheese. And then one of the guys who ran the place let us try out a mandolin he’d made - it wasn’t very good, but Margaret gave him some pointers. And then we were supposedly going to go with them on a diving trip.
Dang, that’s random.
Morning ALL; since some of y’all taveling a traveling a bit these days, thought I’d toss out a book recommendation. I just finished “In a Far Country” by John Taliaferro. Although the cover blurb includes ‘the true story of a mission, a marriage, a murder and the remarkable reindeer rescue of 1898’ it’s a fine read.
The story includes Tom and Ellen Lopp, missionaries for American Missionary Association at Cape Prince of Wales, Captain Michael Healy of the US Customs & Revenue Service Cutter “Bear”, the officers Ellsworth Bertoff, Dr. Samuel Call and David Jarvis, the introduction of reindeer to Alaska, the gold rush in the Yukon and the 700 mile long overland reindeer drive to rescue whalers iced in at Point Barrow in the winter of 1897/1898. They were all pretty amazing folks.
I’m fairly certain that the key words Customs & Revenue Service, Healy, Bertoff, Call and Jarvis and “Bear” had Ramius set up and take notice. They are some key players in the US Customs & Revenue Service and the US Coast Guard history. You’ll probably recognize most if all the various capes, harbors, inlets, and seas that are named.
It’s fairly new, we got it in the new book section at the library.
Have you forgotten the discussions we’ve had on singles groups and what they tend to turn into?
I still think the best approach for me - emphasis on “for me” as everyone is different - is to just not worry about it. Not coop myself up - but then ‘ve never done that as much as I feel like the Hobbit Hole seems to think I do. I do tend to go through phases, a bit, but that’s because, really, I’m an introvert, and if I do too much, it very quickly because overwhelming and I feel like I’m losing control of my whole life.
I’m hoping to check out the slow ride tommorow, if I can find the start point. So there’s that. Being as how it *is* the slow group, there may not be many guys, just from what I know of ‘em. ;-) But it’s a good way to get a feel for what the rides are like.
And maybe I’ll go to a movie, though I don’t think there’s a thing playing that a) I’d like to see and b) he’d like to see, too. Makes that tricky.
Go to a multiplex and see different films.
*snort*
Now...I rather like that idea. I’m not sure how he’d take it, though. ;-)
Okay, I’ve put this off long enough.
It’s cool enough today...I’m going to ~the attic~
Maybe I’ll take the laptop just in case I get stuck up there again.
Got cell phone with GPS?
Thanks for the recommend. I’ll look for it ... got another trip in July. :)
You know, there is nothing better than reading about the Artic or Antartic in the middle of summer. During several Augusts, before we got proper air conditioning, I read several books about Shackleton’s last men, the men who were charged with setting up the supply caches for Shackleton to use when he trid to cross the Antartic, or those left shipwrecked for years. Heartbreaking books, they don’t make men like that anymore, they really don’t, except for the HH men, of course.

Captain Michael "Hell Roaring" Healy is Someone We Should All Know, and we don't. In fact, his whole family is one we should all know.
The history of the Cutter Bear is durned impressive, too.
OB, I'll be looking for that book!
Interesting. My hummingbirds don’t like anything else in their sugar water.
I was in a hurry yesterday, so I mixed up some of what was left of the instant nectar stuff I had - it dissolves better in cold water than sugar does. It has kind of a fruity smell to it, so you’d think it’d be tastier than plain sugar or something.
They wouldn’t touch it. By this morning, I was afraid I’d lost ‘em for good - didn’t see a one. But I replaced it with regular sugar, and they’re trickling back.
Purists.
So far so good today... I went to Value Village and got two pairs of pants and three shirts and a good pair of shoes. Didn’t try any of the clothes on, which is bad, but I soooo hate doing that. Luckily they all fit. I also got a bread machine, which I’m trying out now...should be getting to the baking stage right around dinner time. Hope it works. I can take it back if not, but that’s a drag... Bread is the one thing I really miss the oven for.
If I can get the grill working, there will be ribs later. Mmm...ribs.
I hate rabbits.
I looked at another parent and said "were we at the same game?"
I'm not sure who thought it was wise to schedule a 5 p.m. game the day after school was out. Obviously someone who never had children.
In other news, got about 1/4 of the attic cleaned out. A load to Goodwill and a load to go to the landfill tomorrow...yes on Father’s Day.
Got all the Christmas extravaganza, the Christmas production costumes, Halloween and Easter all up there. They had prevoiusly been residing in the garage until suitable space was rearranged in ~the attic~.
Heh...
Well, I just talked to my Dad for about an hour, and completely forgot to say anything about Father's Day. Oops.
Are they grillable, precious?
Eventually
Evening Miss Rose. Thanks very much for the links, when I get caught up in a good book, I forget the ~ internet ~ is right there to supplement the book. Hope you enjoy the book.
