accompanying especially in a subordinate or incidental way

Concomitant" was introduced into English at a time when many people were criticizing the use of Latinate forms in favor of more "native" words from Old English. As a descendant of Latin "concomitari" ("to accompany") and ultimately of "comes," the Latin word for companion, "concomitant" may well have been initially derided as an ostentatious inkhorn term. Indeed, two associated words, the verb "concomitate," meaning "to accompany," and another adjective, "concomitaneous," meaning "of a concomitant nature," didn't survive to accompany "concomitant" into the 18th century.

to continue the conversation about rudy's judicial picks here, ti, rudy stated on H&C about the john roberts nomination that it was common sense to assume a president will pick a judge who is consistent with his own philosophy. i agree with that common sense proposition, so to apply that to the current situation, one can only assume that rudy would nominate judges consistent with HIS philosophy. which is why i put no stock in the fantasy that he would appoint judges consistent with a prolife philosophy, as he is admitted to be pro-choice. yet there are freepers who are banking on that very thing and ceding him their vote on that basis.

Two hour delay this morning. The school board approved a revised calendar that has the kids going to school until June 13. At least they scrapped their plans to have them go on Good Friday cause they knew people like me wouldn't send their kids. They also abandoned plans to make the kids go to school half a day on the Kenywood picnic day.
