NVidia and Vista(An annoyed vanity)

I really like Vista, it is very nice looking and has some neat gadgets and some appreciated security upgrades. However the once steady videocard company, renowned for its quality drivers, has really laid an egg with Vista.Because of nVidias inability to properly put forth quality drivers I am left with turning all of the eyecandy down on my system, not playing games and instead of letting my PC whisk gently off to sleep I have to shut it down anytime I am going to be away for such a period that the screensaver may be needed or sleep or hibernation modes are too be required, which sucks I like to just sit down and move my mouse and wa la my computer comes back on, or worst just push the power button and it instantly resumes. Not anymore I have boot from cold and wait the long loading time for it to boot, because Vistas load time is not as quick as XP's. Meh I shouldnt complain its a free computer and it sure as heck beats a Mac.

obviously, IF i had it to do over again I would have went with AM2 and NOT Socket939... I would suggest, ONLY going s939 IF you have a CPU right now that you currently have that doesn't have a home....

Otherwise, either go AM2 or better yet, go Intel Core2Duo.. I went with S939 because

1. I'm poor
2. I was part of the upgrade process
3. didn't have all the money all at once... (And I'm impatient)

Exactly. My rig I built over 4 years ago still runs all of my demanding apps just fine. I'm an animator and a gamer, but I've been squeezing every little bit of power out of her since. I upgraded piece by piece; went up to 2GB ram, went to a geforce 6800 from a radeon 9700pro(I still have this card its lasted me until this last year), I still run a AMD 2600+XP Barton core (Overclocked the bejesus out of it) LOL! All of this still running on an n-force2 motherboard rofl. Talk about scalability I built all this for under a $1k originally and put no more than another $400 in upgraded parts her since. I'm on my 3rd power supply lol.
All of this aside I don't think I will upgrade Vista anytime soon. XP has served me just fine for many years now.
Thanks for the FYI about nvidia's poor drivers lately, I need to run nvidia because of their better performance with open-gl applications.

Ahhh, don't be jealous.. and yea.. don't upgrade to Vista with a Barton. ;)

try to save up some cash... AMD has been slashig prices so Look for Intel to do some more soon...

Look for Intel's low end Core2Duo to drop in price sooner than expected...

Very nice, at the time I built the 3800+ I couldnt find a good opty anywhere but on ebay, and for outrageuos prices. The AM2 wasnt out yet. THe AM2 is ok, actually its parts are far superior, and in a head to head competition if they both ran XP and a similar game I suspect the 3800+ would win, mostly because of the inferior RAM my new pc came installed with.

Actually the only advantage the AM2 has is that is can upgrade to the K8L processors when it comes out late this year, early next year. I think in benchmarks when compared to the same s939 chip the s939 has a slight performance lead.

yea, you have a little more of an upgrade path as far as processors go and you have the DDR2 capabilities(easier to find... they aren't making 939 chips anymore)

Here is a review of the AMD 690G + SB600(ATi Radeon X1250) It's an Epox board, I hope you can read Chinese. ;)

I wonder how they can call it x1250 when its based off of a x700 core?

redesigned, they tell you right on the site that it's a re-designed x700...

I don't believe the "old" x700's had Avivo Video Technology whereas the X"1XXX" line have it... ;)

Obviously, the dedicated x700 video card would be better in (games) than the X1250 because the onboard solution will be using slow (system ram) compared to fast GDDR3.

The onboard solutions are geared toward people like me that are poor, or just rich people that are cheap ba**ards! ;)

IF you need some DVD's check these out. ;) I burned them at only 4X although I burned one at 8X and it worked fine(I don't like burning at fast speed, I just don't trust it but it worked fine on the one I did)
