Watching Stern going through the ransacked house raised my suspicions even further. But something seemed wrong. Her art was really "worthless" and there's no black market for them but they were all gone.

Then Stern went to the closet and said "all the important legal documents were stolen" INCLUDING the baby's birth certificate . Is that where YOU keep all your documents??? On a shelf in the closet??
