Never give a great QB a chance to beat you.

We gave that game to New England today with a bad case of hammer hands. Dropped passes, a fumbled interception, and a fumbled punt cost us that game. Also Rivers was not real sharp and overthrew Jackson on a touchdown pass in the back of the end zone. Our defense played well enough except for the fumbled interception by McCree. You gotta hand it to NE, they do amazing things that nobody else would think to try, like ripping the ball out of the hands of a DB after an interception.

But I've been saying this all year and I'll say it again: San Diego has made a big mistake by not having any plays that throw the ball deeper down the field to Tomlinson. He's the fastest player on our team in the 40 yard dash, and you have to have plays to throw deep to a guy like that. Bill Walsh used to throw deep to Ricky Waters & Carl Monroe and burned defenses routinely. Schottenheimer makes the game too difficult for his teams by not utilizing all his talent to make big plays. So he just doesn't score enough points in the playoffs. This is kind of tough, but if I was AJ Smith I'd cut Eric Parker and fire Marty, then make Wade Phillips the head coach. Parker is one of those pre-season stars who drops too many passes in the big games. I was afraid this would happen--we'd get in a fairly high scoring game and not get enough points because of Marty and Belechek's defense.

I think the Pats, Colts, and Chargers are about equal and the Pats just outplayed us today. Pats or Colts should win the Super Bowl.

Apparently Marty never learned his lesson of 20 years ago this week. As a lifetime Browns fan of 40+ years and counting, I fully expected the Pats to win this one.

This was a tough game for me to see. Which ex-Browns coach do I want to see lose more? I'm just glad CBS didn't show footage of Elway and The Drive at the end of the game.

I was also a little surprised SD didn't try to run one more quick out pattern with 8 seconds to go, to get a little closer. I know it would be a gamble with no time outs remaining, but no more gamble than a 50+ yd FG would have been, IMO.
