Dig it: The 1970's are calling...pick up the phone and groove on the memories. When was the last time the Democrats ran the House and the Senate? When was the last time the Conservatives wondered what became of the GOP? When was the last time people craved an "energy policy"? When was the last time the word TAXATION was used in the same sentence as inevitable? When was the last time people considered Ford and Carter as Presidents? When was the last time Iran seriously threatened the USA? When was the last time AM radio ruled the airwaves? When was the last time music was as purposely bad as today? Dynamite! You remember the last time was the 1970s.
Trip out and go back in time to AM radio, a pick in your afro, corn rows platform shoes, bell bottoms, silk shirts, short shorts, large neck chains, mood rings, disco music, rollerskating mania, teen idols, Farrah Fawsett, the Brady Bunch, the misery index, high inflation, price controls, SALT, Annie Hall, and invention of the personal computer. Come join the fun--

LOL that's still mainly technical-English "invented", not "used" or "innovated" or popular!
The only thing mentioned here that was at all *prevalent* in the '70s was the "PONG"!
The TV was "invented" in the '30s but it did NOT become known and widespread ("innovated") until the '50s! Someone saying TV is typical of the '30s ("a '30s thing") is being absurd.
See what I mean now?
Again I apologize, but things like that just drive me nuts! They give wrong impressions to people who have absolutely no clue and need good history lessons. ;-)
The only real "punk" is Iggy!
Spoken like a true Iggy fan.
I remember a joke from the time..."He's so ugly, he should be an honorary Travelling Wilbury!"
Q: Can you dig it?
A: No, but I can spray it.
WooHoo!! There are a couple of wild and crazy guys!!
.....then your memory is awesome dude!....
They don't call me Bert for nothing!!
"Acceptable" is different from "known".
Surely I would've *heard of* this if it was ever really popular! Of course, my sister being older would be a better source.
Heck, I know things/styles people now claim were big in the '80s but I never ever heard/saw them, or hardly ever saw them to say they counted or were "big" (i.e., representative of the culture at large)!
This also brings to mind something my mother claims lately. That in the '50s "square" was a GOOD thing and "square guys" were nice straight-laced good boys. My only knowledge of it is as a deragatory term (same thing, I guess, but different bent - nerd, geek, dork).
Same kind of thing. I still doubt her that such meaning was prevalent!
Those were the really great days of SNL.
I give up!! What does IIRC stand for? It is drivin me nuts tryin to figure it out. I an usually pretty goood at acronyms. Thanks
IIRC=If I Recall Correctly
It means I'm using my memory and I could be wrong.
IRC=I recall which seems more certain in my book.
