Woman Shoots Self When Hot Shell Falls Into Shirt
WKMG TV NEWS ^ | 12-28-2006

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A little target practice was too hot for an Oklahoma woman to handle.

Police in Oklahoma City said Anna Herrera-Gomez was practicing with a 9 mm. gun at an indoor range when a hot shell casing fell down the front of her shirt.

She jumped as the hot metal touched her skin and reached for her chest. And that's when she accidentally shot herself in the leg.

Police said Herrera-Gomez suffered a minor leg wound. A paramedic who happened to be target shooting at the range at the same time came to her aid.

That's a great idea! I have had several cases jump into my glasses. Fortunately I have had the presence of mind to just freeze till I was able to but down the firearm.

OUCH!

YEah, this is bad training. The first thing is, I think, you need to be ready for this unexpected sensation. But it sure makes sense to dress to prevent it. I've seen guys show up at the range in shorts, tshirt, and flipflops. Maybe it's comfortable, but it's just asking for trouble.

I have a tiny burn scar just above my eyebrow from that.

Unfortunately the casing wedged between the brim of my cap and the frame of my glasses....

Kiss it and make it better, then checkout the leg?

If she had been shortless, the hot shell would have just rolled off, and not been trapped against her skin.

Naw, it's just like you can tell a good welder when he shows up barefooted, he knows where the sparks will fall.
