Well when your entire conference is scrutinized for its bowl game performances, national rankins at risk and of course recruit exposure, it behooves the entire conference to perform well.
I even swallowed some vomit to root for KSUx, although they blew it which was still satisfying.
Yes. But then I live in SEC country.
I dunno. I just don't know how I could personally pull for UCLA, even if they were playing Notre Dame in a bowl game.
That's just one of those games where I'd hope both teams left in the stadiums in ambulances.
I'm not a nice person. ;-)
Last year, I was determined to root against UT in the Rose Bowl, but then the first shot of the team coming onto the field was a closeup of a cheerleader running with a big State of Texas flag, followed by the usual UT flags. I was shamed into rooting for UT because of my loyalty to the State of Texas.....
The same part of me that allows me to vote for people like Bob Dole, Hutchison, Bush Sr., etc.
Take Mike Zimmer from Dallas...
Please.
I've lived in Texas longer than I lived in California, but since I got my degree from USC, I wasn't swayed by the presence of the Texas flag. I think I can be forgiven for that.
I had no problem rooting for Tech last night. I just quizzed my Aggie son, and he says he's slightly pulling for the Longhorns tonight because of conference loyalty, more shared revenues, blah blah blah.
But that's a bunch of horsecrap. I think he would have been happy for Tech to lose last night because they beat A&M this year.
I say, stick to your principles, fickle football fans.
Sounds like it turned into something really special. A shame that it was hidden from most of the country on the NFL Network, though. The Big 12 really needed that win, good for Texas Tech.
Yep, Texas Tech isn't in the SEC...
I imagine NFL Network and the cable companies will eventually work something out.
It's been tough on a lot of fans around the country who had no easy way watch the games on that network, though.
For suburbia and rural regions, satellite is the way to go. Generally, it costs more, but you also get a lot more.
In urban areas, especially high-density areas, you might not even have an option to mount a satellite dish. You can have a $2 million apartment in New York on the 23rd floor, but you're stuck with cable.
Until we get a playoff, I (almost) always root for Big 12 teams when they aren't playing Texas, because of the strength of schedule/beauty contest factor in determining who plays in the mythical nat'l championship game. Having Big 12 teams lay eggs in the bowls does NOT help Texas recruiting. Maybe USC can get away with it, but the sorry showing of the Pac 10 so far is really challenging my earlier assessment that they were better than the SEC. Could make a huge difference if USC is one of 3 undefeated teams next year, and don't forget how much reputation and subjectivity goes into the early polls that shape how hard or easy each team's path to the bogus national title game will be. The kind of crap that put OU and LSU into a laughable 'title' game a few years ago.
Though if Boise State beats OU I won't shed any tears (and in fact will be LMAO)...
Oddly enough, Texas A&Ms basketball team gave up fewer points than the football team (101-27 over Grambling).
The NFL Network coverage sucked bigtime. Once, when there were seconds left in the 3rd quarter, the announcers kept saying it was the 4th quarter. Once or twice, they called Leach "Lynch". A couple of times, they referred to "Texas Tech" as "Texas", as in "And, Texas is now at 1st & goal..." (this last thing is just unforgiveable).
A new defensive coordinator?!
We need to fire Glen Mason and the entire staff.
I'm really really suggesting that we gut the entire program and start over.
This isn't the first time that a Glen Mason-coached team has built a big lead and lost it.
It's unforgiveable. It's atrocious. It's infuriating.
I go to several Gopher football games a year and I'll always be a loyal fan. But I'm not sure that I can go again as long as Glen Mason is head coach.
I think head to head confrontations between conferences is a better indication of the strength of the respective conferences than overall bowl performance.
Bigger conferences are always likely to send more teams than smaller ones and it is no indication of the quality of team they are playing. If someone in my conference plays a Division II school in a bowl game and beats it, that should not impress you.
However, if your conference is consistently beating mine, especially if it's by an "average" team in the conference, that impresses me a lot.
Oh man this would be something if Navy can hang on.
Nope....game winning FG as clock runs out, wild ending to the game.BC 25 Navy 24
Haven't heard that name before. What special qualities does he have that establish him in (or, presumably, exclude him from) the League of Extraordinary Defensive Coordinators?
That was a dumb call on third down by Navy. They should have just down a fullback dive and punted.
