COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A 14-year-old boy who was throwing eggs at cars along with two other teenagers was shot and killed by someone who had been in a sport-utility vehicle that was hit, police said.

Danny Crawford was killed by a gunshot wound to his upper body, Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis said. He died in an alley on the city's west side early Saturday, authorities said.

The teens were throwing eggs at cars when an SUV that was struck chased them, Detective Tim Huston said. The vehicle stopped and several gunshots were fired, he said.

Police were looking for the shooter, who fled in the SUV, Sgt. Dana Norman said. The SUV believed to be involved was found a short time later near where Crawford died.

The other teens were not hurt, police said.

Don't you mean the eggs don't justify the means??

If some teenager egged your car would you chase him down into an ally and shoot him the chest?

Who knows what someone's fight-flight-freeze survival mechanism is going to lead to, short-term, once triggered -- that's why it's best not to mess with strangers.

Besides that, we don't know if the shooter realized the threatening event had completely passed. For instance, how many folks have come back from wars and upon hearing the sound of a car backfiring, they're immediately startled, and feel like they're in battle all over again, even if they haven't been in battle for 10, 20, 30 years or more?

egging a car, as dangerous as it is, is not on the same level as shooting someone in the chest.

Actually, egg-throwing is potentially more dangerous since one egg landing the right way, and frightening the driver, could create a scenario whereby many are seriously injured and/or killed..

On the other hand, how many people can die from one bullet?

Your compassion for criminals and total lack there of for their victims borders on abetting.

Baloney. I'm a criminal-abetting, appeasing liberal for thinking that egging a car doesn't justify a vigilante assassination? Guess I'll just have to be a RINO then.

There were several shots and only one hit. The punishment was a little weak.

Well, what about a public lynching at dawn for the other two hardened criminals who got away? Then we must plant their rotting heads on pikes in front of local middle schools. That'll show little bastards. That's real justice, goddamn it!

It's an egg this year and a cinder block off an overpass next year. What part of "positive re-inforcment and counseling" not working is so hard to figure out.

There is a vast, vast gulf between what happened here and "positive reinforcement and counseling". For this, I'd suggest jail time. If he were my kid, he'd have his ears boxed, but as far as the law is concerned, what are you going to do? Kill everyone who ever throws eggs at a car? Drives drunk? Drives carelessly? Of course, we don't even need the police, since we're just allowing everyone to mete out their own justice.

It's called crime "prevention". That kid will NEVER commit another crime.

If we kill everyone on that planet, no one will ever commit a crime. Sounds good to me.

You're right. We don't know the shooter's life circumstances. Sounds like he needs some positive reinforcement and couseling! (per post 158)

Okay. He's allegedly guilty of murder.

Potentially more dangerous. But shooting someone in the chest it actually more dangerous; there's no potentiality at all, really. But these are philosophical quibbles. The question is: does egging someone's car justify chasing them down and gunning them down? I do no think so.

A purposful lie, of course. I see you don't have the ability to respond to a scenario of real blood and guts, though you seem to have no problem criticizing someone who objects to such a gruesome murder. If this misrepresents your position, then I must have missed something in your response to JillValentine, who was shocked by some poster's favorable response. Are you saying that you were NOT in favor of this killing?

Agreed.

*But*, it is generally safer not to be the kind of retard who eggs cars.

Now we have additional proof of this.

Following that assinine logic, we should shoot everyone who spits on the sidewalk, becuause surely they're going to escalate to crimes of a lethal nature eventually. Too stupid for mere words to express.

About five Halloweens ago, it was 4 degrees and snowing. Someone threw an egg at my car. Because it was 4 degrees, the egg was practically frozen, and left a big dent. It would have broken a window, had it hit one.

My car has also been paintballed. Because I did see the point of origin on that one, I called the police, mainly to go tell them that there is a likelihood these days that someone may respond with more than just paintballs.
