My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Last Fall
The days are short, the wind has grown,
My community has now all flown.
I stare at emptiness all around,
And brownish carpeting on the ground.
When I was young, so long ago,
The days seemed endless, ever so.
I was so green. Ive learned a lot.
So many shared my lofty spot.
We danced and twirled the time away,
Forgetful of the length of day,
With unseen music through the bright,
And whispers in the silent night.
Alone, I watch the neighborhood,
A stark and silent stretch of wood,
Tears sometimes dim the golden days,
Until the scene is filled with haze.
And only memory serves to fill,
The lonely times upon this hill.
They all have gone now, I remain,
A sad perspective is my gain.
Theyve departed, this way and that,
A graceful tip of an invisible hat,
And scattered to the winds they were,
Until only I am left to stir,
I twist to shed the Winters blast,
As I enjoy my being last,
And in the bleak and dismal scene,
I long for days when things were green.
One morning, I awake to find,
The world transformed while I was blind.
In darkness, change had come within the night,
The brown became a world of white!
In joy at last I chanced the breeze,
And danced among the stark black trees.
On stiffened fingertips, I race,
Across the snow without a trace.
All through the day I dance and twirl,
Til dizzy with the endless whirl,
I fetch up in a tent of green,
And on a sturdy trunk I lean.
The needle-leaves fresh fragrance sends,
With frozen tears the branch then bends.
I look at stars through crystal lens,
I settle down, and dream of friends.

Thanks for the excellent commentary Soaring. Yes, it looks like India is in the cards. In fact, more than just in the cards, the Greek I'm working with also lived in India, and Sri Lanka too (the safe parts!), and he was giving me all kinds of info regarding that area too.
So I think I'll take your advice and go to India. I haven't actually quit the job just yet, Chinese (that is culturally pure breed Chinese) will steal anything they can get their hands on. They also seem to have this idea that money that you've already earned is in no way "yours", rather, whoever is holding the physical bills is the true "owner" of that money, hours you might have worked are just some sort of unrelated affair to negotiate, but the money is not "yours" unless you're holding it! Therefore you must wait until they hand you the cash, then announce you've quit. It's trashy by our standards, but if ever you let them hold the paper then start exit negotiations from that weak vantage point, well, you'll never make that mistake again!
Yes, I'm just disappointed in these Chinese, they do have discipline, and they value education (but for them, that largely just means repeating what you just said to them, not what we would consider education), but their real failing is this grotesque emotional slaughter house they've cobbled together for themselves.
That bizarre woman manager's reaction is just so contrary to even her own interests. I must admit, I never suspected it was a trick to just say trashy and completely uncalled for, and perfectly measured, put downs using everything she's learned about me over the last six weeks. And the reason I never suspected that is because such an action would SERVE NO USEFUL PURPOSE WHATSOEVER FOR ANYONE!!!
And yet, that's what it was, it's like, because I wouldn't expect someone to launch an attack against a proven human resource who the customers have shown they liked, and is in an environment where it's darn hard to find such resources (that is, an American instructor for business English who will actually live in this dump), because I wouldn't expect her to attack her own interests like that and do it provocatively at my expense, so therefore, that's the only reason she did do it.
I will say in their defense, changing jobs and moving around was absolutely forbidden historically, and is still heavily taboo, plus they just don't have the personal skills yet to swing such actions, so there's this heavy belief that you'll just stay here no matter what they do to you. While for us, of course, we're keeping a careful accounting (a cumulative accounting, that is) of all the BS, and we'll just bolt when the pressure gage hits the accepted limit.
Oh well, something tells me that because I could have lived here with little effort for a number of years, that's why I shouldn't stay here. Life is about growth, after all, and I think you're right, I'm tired of their tactics, also I can see that they are all self destructive tactics, and stupid and low class by any measure.

Also, I swung by that summary we posted a while ago of the verifiable progress we have made in Iraq, and I was amazed to see that, while previously views stopped at 1500, now it's up to 2150 (
you can see here)!
So that's definitely good news, more informed Americans who can have the proper respect for our armed forces. Of course civil violence can destroy a lot of what we built, but no one can ever deny what we achieved for those people by our military's efforts in the Middle East!

Good morning, everyone. Please excuse my recent absence: I'm generally fairly good about staying current in threads. Lately, days have been slightly stressful. I would, however, still like to congratulate everyone (who celebrates) on the first week of the Advent: I've noticed that people of all religions have been a little peppier lately. :)
On another note, has anyone here read The Imitation of Christ? It's most commonly attributed to Thomas a Kempis, but the original author was so insistent on humility that he didn't actually tell anyone he wrote the book. Anyone who has read it: I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts, if you don't mind: not too many people around me have heard of it.
To those of you who haven't read it, I sincerely reccomend doing so: although some ideas are foreign to me, I think everyone can get something out of it.

Alas. 'Tis fun: if you've read Life of Pi, it's referenced there a bit, and has influenced much of what we have in christian writing today.

It was written between 1420 and 1427, but the "vintage Spiritual Classics" edition was published in 1984.

Hmm, vintage indeed! Can you give us a nutshell synopsis that will hit us with its main contributions?

Hmm..
It's written by a 15th century monk, mostly as advice to other monks (i.e. he uses phrases such as "You have entered the monestary in order to find your God"). The thesis statememnt, if i may use the term, is a basic Christian ideal:
"My son, to the degree that you can leave yourself behind, to that degree you shall be able to enter into Me."
have to go now. I'll talk more later.

You're a keen guy Starbase, you will do what's right for you!
My philosophy, never play the other persons' game, show more dignity and personal honor by remaining above the fray. Hard to do most of the time as we are not saints, but all too human. ;)
