Programming doesn't hurt to know. No matter what field, knowing a little about the systems you're using isn't bad. But if that's really not what you want... have you thought about volunteering at a hospital on weekends? It might give you an idea about whether you'd actually like nursing, without committing to classes.
Just for what it's worth..... Jeff Foxworthy's game show is hilarious: "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?" What a hoot!!
Volunteering in some way is a good idea regardless. I think they do four hour a week shifts - so someone can, for example, work just one evening or weekend. Probably require a background check, things being what they are these days, but I guess that's par for the course. Officially, the job I did for Catholic Charities required a background check.
Honestly, though, regarding nursing...I think I'd LOVE the coursework for anything medical, but I just don't know that I have the personality for the actual work. Even for nursing, where you're following orders to an extent, you need a lot of self-assurance, I'd say. And you need to be good with people. I don't think I'd fit the bill.
