The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Haven't read any Tom Clancy. Suppose I should remedy that some day...though I'm not much for super detailed scientific jargon.

On the other hand, I love Michael Crichton in spite of the technical jargon...so maybe I'd enjoy Clancy. Crichton's State of Fear is *excellent*.

I have fake flowers. Also a fake tree.

But then...none of my decor would really belong in Home and Garden.

BTW, I was wrong. AI tonight is at the same time as LOST.

Guess I'll check it out later. Should be...interesting.

Well, that's what DVR is for... we should be able to watch both if you want. :~)

Clancy's specialty is the inner workings of the defense and intel agencies. It's scary what you can compile from open sources. My caution about his stuff is that the language can be a bit coarse and the stories are very violent.

Mom read exactly one of his books...in addition to what you said, she also said he has no clue how to write even remotely realistic wimmin.

But I should at least give him a try one of these days. Man, my "should read soon" list is getting long...

Eek - evil number.

I'd forgotten you could DVR a second channel. Hm...OK. It should be an interesting freakfest. ;-)

I'd recommend Red October or Patriot Games to start.

he has no clue how to write even remotely realistic wimmin.

That's a given considering his primary audience. ;)

I read the first four or so Clancy books. I think the main issue with reading them now is that they are fairly dated in their world politics. We have them if you want to borrow them. There's only one main character (Jack Ryan's wife) that I even recall, and I liked her. Any idea what kind of wimmin issue your mom didn't like?

Is your computer named Bob, and if so, is he on the network right now?

Heh...yes, my computer is named Bob. And I left it on. Is anything wrong?

I don't remember exactly what she said...just that they didn't act like women really would...to the point where she found it distracting and irritating.

But she was kinda picky that way.

No, I just didn't know who Bob was, and wanted to make sure we weren't getting an intruder. :)

Didn't your computer used to be named something else?

Ugh. Finally got around to the stuff to get my car in my name and not in my dad's (long story). It involved refinancing. So I spent an hour on the phone with USAA. They have the most amazingly awesome customer service ever.

Are you eligible for them? Because you really should use them if so, they're amazing.

I guess we don't look out on the network very often or we'd have recognized him. :~)
