Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
I was given a sewing machine a few years ago...I got as far as making one lopsided apron out of scrap fabric, but then I didn't take it with me when I left Vermont. I gave it to someone who actually sews.
I already have more hobbies and interests than I can afford or have time for...but still, someday...
Between thrift stores and cheap imported clothing, doing your own sewing these days doesn't make sense as a savings. Does allow for customization, which is kinda cool...but I don't think it's enough of a reason for me to be dying to do it.
I just wish I had more skills, that's all. ;-)
I had really short hair, permed on top and as usual, when I smile I show every tooth in my head.
I had just given up smoking and weighed about 100lbs. I also have a habit of ducking my head down when I talk to people...I usually don't do it, but sometimes I forget and the bottom picture shows me doing it.
Also, I made the highest grade in my class on my state nursing boards and my teachers had me come back and talk to the next year's class to give them tips on how to prepare for the test.
I didn't mention I shared a bottle of wine with two other girls to help us get to sleep the night before!
Party down!
Focus on one thing for a while and obsess on it!
;-)
That's about what I do...which is why my house is such a mess. And why I have bunches of yarn I may never use, stacks of blank notebooks, tons of bottled ink, half-finished calligraphy projects, half-finished teddy-bears and afghans...
And stuff.
Oh, I just remembered why I was grinning like that at the guy!! That was the president of the college. He's the one that I went into his office and slammed a piece of BURNED pizza down on his desk (they were serving it in the cafeteria) and said "I ASK YOU! WOULD YOU EAT THAT??"
He leaned over his desk and said "What is it?"
ROFLOL!!
We had a funny relationship...kinda love/hate, you know...
I often wonder if he changed his "Open Door" policy after I left, though.
9th grade sewing--Home Ec--how could I forget that awlful white sleeveless, collar-less, high-necked top with the red rick-rack, and blood-droplets stains from where I'd pricked my fingers trying to sew on the dang rick-rack!!!
I thought I'd lost you!
2J... nevermind... I'm here now :~)
The funny thing is, the girls I shared the bottle of wine with were cheating on a test at the beginning of the nursing course. After everyone had turned in their tests, I raised my hand and said that I had observed a couple of students cheating and that they might get away with it now but when they went to take their boards they'd be in trouble. I never told who I saw cheating and it never came up or happened again.
Both those girls passed their boards and one of them I know also became an RN.
Or at the very least, installed a silent alarm under the desk...
Heh heh heh!!
Really, it sounds worse than it is. We were both very cheerful folks and we were always laughing about things. We both just sat and roared over that pizza. It was positively charred.
I'd read somewhere that the hat style, or some design on the hat designated the Nursing school one had attended. Is that true?
The nurse breathes so loud we could have shot her in the dark.
That's true!
My cap from LVN school had a green stripe. My RN cap is very similar, only it has a black stripe (only RNs can have a black striped cap, I think...they may have other colors, but LVNs can't have black...IIRC.)
Heh!!
I just looked and it seems they've gotten rid of their football team.
I got in a fight with one of the football players in the cafeteria there and he told his coach on me. (He was 18-19 years old...I was 23.) The coach told the president and the president called me into his office and we had a good laugh about it.
I kid you not...I am not making this up.
*snort* I did an apron first, then a nasty ugly brown cotton shift. I've sewn some nice things for myself over the years, though, including my wedding dress! It was very plain; it was the mid-70's, after all.
The fight consisted of this big lug grabbing me and not letting go and I *think* I stabbed him with my fork. I doubt I even broke the skin, the big baby. I bet he was 300lbs and I'm sure I wasn't 100lbs, because that was when I still smoked.
The football players thought all the girls worshipped the ground they walked on.
This was the same school where the box-fan incident happened, btw.

And where the girl that lived in my dorm that intended to become a nun was teaching anatomy during her summer break and was also working at a vet and had me help her carry a massive dead golden retriever from the clinic to her room so she could dissect it for her class. We did it in the middle of the night and we did ok because it was in a big plastic sack and stiff as a board at first but then the rigor fell out of it and we really stuggled. Then campus police stopped us and she said we were carrying books to her class and thankfully he let us go on!
ROFLOL!! I guess she had to do something extra for confession to make up for that, huh Suzi?
~memory lane~
