The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Didn't buy a boat. We're trying to figure out what sort of boating we want to do. There's an argument that we're maybe not going to want to trailer it much anyway, and shouldn't bother worrying about making it easily trailerable.

He's not wanting to pull a trailer and launch anymore. I might, but rarely.

This boat show was huge. Easily the biggest ever I've seen. Kinda interesting, after several years ago when it had fallen on harder times. There must be a lot of people with a whole lot of money to spend. Prices are of course just lunatic. There was a 29ft Whaler there for $180K. Sure, its pretty, but that's just nuts. It's not ~that~ much boat.

I'm still looking at the 22 Arima being just the ticket, and it's down in ~far~ more reasonable territory.

This one here:

BUT... this one is just cute as the dickens, ain't it?

I think there's big fun to be had. It's made by C-Dory. Has a little single inboard diesel. This little thing just screams my name. It's very *me*.

That little tug is very cute... but the first one with the planing hull does have that handy ability to pick up and actually get somewhere. :~)

I would like to see you guys settle on something this year... My husband would like to go salmon fishing, you know :~)

Yah. There's something to be said for being able to pick up and get someplace.

Dad's pretty sour on the fishing in the sound. It's true that it's really messed up with inexplicable regs. But for me it's much more about the fishing than the catching. I'd be perfectly happy to spend the whole day chasing after one fish.

Some day I'm gonna mail you a fish, even if I gotta buy it. :-)

Well... gotta go. Heading for the airport.

Yay.

Not me. But then again, I'm pretty much always hungry. It's why I don't plant flowers. I figure you should use that space to plant something to eat in case global disaster strikes, which I think is gonna happen any minute.

;-)

I want a house boat...

I'm thinking about a garden this year. The raised bed in our yard is falling apart and we'd need a fence to keep the puppies out. And it'd be a lot of work. Dunno. Maybe if my brothers come visit in April I will have them dig me a plot.

I am:
Hal Clement (Harry C. Stubbs)
A quiet and underrated master of "hard science" fiction who, among other things, foresaw integrated circuits back in the 1940s.

Which science fiction writer are you?

You can at least grow stuff in pots.

I've got some peppers and tomatoes growing in thesunroom right now, but it's slow going because of the cold. I think I'll do half of my 'maters and peppers indoors away from thesquirrelz this summer.

I dunno who these people are...should I be flattered or insulted?

I am:
William Gibson
The chief instigator of the "cyberpunk" wave of the 1980s, his razzle-dazzle futuristic intrigues were, for a while, the most imitated work in science fiction.

Er... well... let's just say I think Gisbon is about the most overrated hack out there today.

I am:
Robert A. Heinlein
Beginning with technological action stories and progressing to epics with religious overtones, this take-no-prisoners writer racked up some huge sales numbers.

I swear I didn't cheat but... I like that result :-)

Except...does that mean we can expect you to get nuttier and nuttier as you get older, until you go completely off the deep end?

I thought I already was off the deep end.

Very sad when I have to confirm my suspicion of snowfall online... when there's a window ten feet away. Only the blinds are drawn. Always are.

Huh... wait... maybe I could open them...
