The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

It went well and I think Steve would love the job. But it's a small company, no family benefits...which worries me, and the pay isn't that great considering the lack of benefits.

I really wish you'd made it to ShootMoot. Th'g'nads are great folks. I can't remember what it is g'nad had Steve doing, I just remember he would come in absolutely filthy and happy as a clam!

Remember the olden days when folks would sit on the front porch and just visit...that's what it's like at the Ridge.

Do you have somewhere to be? I love when it looks like that as long as there's nowhere I need to be urgently. It looks like that here. I walked down to the grocery store through our five inches and it was so nice and peaceful.

Hrm... I think I might have to take the quiz again.

You Are A: Monkey!

monkeyMonkeys are intelligent and agile, well-adapted for jungle life as they swing happily from tree to tree. As a monkey, you are a social animal who prefers a warm climate, eats a wide range of food and is quick to learn new things. A monkey's tiny primate features are irresistable, as is her gregarious personality!

Very nice indeed; didn't even know they had illuminated reticles.

It's a common item on German military optics. Here's my NVA 7x40DFs, thought by some to be the finest military binoculars ever made. The fitting on the right is for the light source. On the left is a port hole that lets you "charge" an infrared filter during the day. At night, twist a knob, and the filter is swung into the optical path. It's supposed to let you detect infrared light sources, although I've never tried it.

Here's the light, complete with battery box, on the binoculars. This light is also used on East German aiming circles, BC scopes, and other optics. It uses two AA batteries, although the battery box is big enough to hold a dozen batteries. It took me about five years of patient searching to track down the rig.

Here's the whole outfit. The East German unit is on the right. At the very left of the picture is the West German scope illuminator. A red LED, two calculator batteries, and a dimmer switch, minus all the industrial-grade hookup of the commie model.

It's muh job.

Seriesly, I learned from my father how to distinguish cool gadgets from junk. And in the computer biz, I need to know about new gadgetry before clients try them, so I can stay a jump ahead.

Plus, our troop support program is really just a fancy name for "military gadgets". But if they're good enough, a gadget becomes a necessity, or even a life saver.

You Are A: Pony!

ponyWho doesn't love a pony? You are one of these miniature horses, renown for your beauty and desired by many. Full of grace, you are a beautiful and very special animal, full of strength and majesty.

You were almost a: Bear Cub or a Turtle
You are least like a: Chipmunk or a Duckling

The Cute Animals Quiz

Ponies are also smart, lazy, and full of guile. Maybe this test is more accurate than I first thought.

You Are A: Duck!

duckFound in many lakes and ponds, ducks are a common site the world over. Known for their famous quack, ducks tend to congregate in flocks or go off on their own in pairs. As a duck, you may seem friendly at times but will not hesitate to bite if someone is bothering you. are some reasons why you are a duck.

You Are A: Frog!

froggyIndependent yet still part of a large community, frogs are unique creatures known for their distinctive sound and ability to hop. As a frog, you spend your days sitting on lily pads or climbing trees, searching for delicious insects to eat. While there are some frogs that aren't exactly cute, you are certainly not one of those!

You are least like a: Duck or a Bunny

A number of places I'd like to be, but getting over being sick, I won't subject the rest of the population to it unnecessarily.

Tanks though :)

You Are A: Chipmunk!

chipmunkEveryone adores these cute woodland animals, known for the stripe that runs down their back. Famously timid, chipmunks will quickly scurry to the safety of their burrows if danger approaches. As a chipmunk, you eat mostly seeds and nuts, but you may sample bird eggs and insects from time to time.
