The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

yup. We're about to embark on another building project: a little cabin in PA. We're going to start with a cabin shell and improve it into a proper vacation home. The challenging part is not going to be doing the work but reigning in my inner tree-hugger engineer/ domestic diva. I have 'spensive ideas.

Hey, sir...can you recommend a good emergency radio? One that can play am/fm and weather? Not the kind that only has earphones...

There's so many choices out there, it's mostly a matter of preference. There are specialized radios that can receive localized broadcasts, or warn of lightning strikes, or make coffee. I'd also recommed something like the Freeplay, which is plain ol' AM-FM, but it has a built in crank generator, as well as rechargeable batteries and a solar panel. In an emergency, most stations still on the air will switch over to emergency broadcasts.

Here's as good a place to start as any. Weatherradiostore.com

Heh, we're trying not to do too much at once... but the stuff ought to be done so...

We have to finish the basement first, really, but to do that we'll be buying a router. Which would be a good tool for making new cabinet doors. Ours are total garbage. And the floor might be hard wood under the linoleum...

we'll be buying a router.

oooooooh! That's second on my list of power tools I'd like to get. The first is a small miter saw.

I really wanted to get Talon a router for Christmas but I was so clueless, I decided not to. But that's on our list of tools we need. I think we have a miter saw. We have some saws and are getting more.

Home improvement is like tugging on a snag in a sweater.

Ain't that the truth! You get one thing fixed up, then the other stuff looks shabby in comparison.

Oh, have you found a place in PA yet? Are you looking in the Poconos, or up in the mountains by Scranton? We went camping up at Adams Falls State Park once, and it was just gorgeous up there! And when we're driving South, we cut through South and East of Wilkes Barre, and go past Tobyhanna State Park. It's pretty there, too.

Power tool funkle!
SirKit has a router that attaches to his compound miter saw. Got that for doing cabinet doors, though we haven't had to build any of those yet.
