The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I keep looking in the Olympian for the story of the robbery last night... it's not there, but I found this...

Olympia
Man sprays clerk, then robs grocery store

A man robbed the South Union Grocery in the 10000 block of Tilley Road on Thursday morning by spraying a substance thought to be Mace in the clerk's face and fleeing with money from the cash register, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office said.

The suspect walked into the store about 7:30 a.m., took a can of soda pop to the counter and sprayed a substance in the clerk's face, Thurston County Sheriff's Lt. Chris Mealy said. The suspect then demanded that the clerk give him the money from the register, Mealy said.

The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, he said.

A store co-owner described the suspect as a white male, about 6 feet

2 inches tall, in his 30s and wearing a baseball cap, a flannel shirt and dampened jeans.

The clerk was treated at the scene and wasn't badly injured, Mealy said.

That's only about 5 miles from here... same guy as last night - with a friend?

A guy pulled a knife on her. She just looked at him and said "I'm sorry, you'll have to see the manager about that."

Steel magnolia. ;o)

Sounds like the two went out for a evening of hell-raising. Good thing the police caught them! I'm glad to know the clerk is OK, too.

Ha! The ~perp~ had dampened jeans?

How good is that as a description, anyhow?

The store owner was talking last night after all this, about how much he had spent on the security camera system, and how great the film was of the whole robbery (hopefully we'll get to watch it today). I heard a cop on the phone saying "Yeah - we've got ~great~ film!"

And it is great, and obvious. You walk in the store and see your face on a 19 inch TV. He said he's got 14 cameras. I said well, it paid off last night!

Ever thought of buildin' a "virtual" fence?

I hear Washington thinks they're effective.

Back from a morning of throwing large wads of cash around, and I ain't done yet.

Got my hair cut for the first time in a lonnnnng time, which is good, though as usual I got the gal that wasn't absolutely sure what she was doing. I think it's crooked in back, but she took a long time to cut and kept snipping here and snipping there and I figured I'd better leave before it got snipped any shorter...

Got a new Carhartt jacket identical to my current Jack jacket except that it's black. Didn't have brown at the place I got it. They're not all that pretty, but I can fit a beer bottle in each front pocket, which is a good quality for a coat... Plus they have a hood that's enough to keep glasses dry when it rains. Another fine quality.

Speaking of glasses, I'm going back to get my eyes examined this afternoon. *sigh* At least I don't need new frames. And it's been probably two and a half years, if not three, so I need 'em checked.

The doctor looks way too young. But then, at home, I'd been going to the same doc since I was five or so, and he's now probably in his mid sixties. So that seems about the appropriate age differential to me.

Still don't have a wedding outfit. I guess I'll wear something I've already got.

I've been pretty lazy actually. Got the laundry going. I did some measuring in thebackyard...think I'll undouble that one bed and have three planting beds back there this summer.

The doctor looks way too young.

Is he single and from a nice Catholic family? ;-)

I just got fitted for new contacts yesterday. Need to go to Walmart and buy some glasses with the new prescription for when I don't want to stick my fingers in my eyes.

I've been taking down Christmas lights and am just taking a late lunch break. I've been wanting to do yard work. It's in the 70s and sunny out there.

It's just wrong to have spring fever on January 6.
