Dixie Chicks refuse to leave well enough alone (Chicks Get Owned! LOL)
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | 12/01/2006 | John Hayes

"I find Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire conspiring with manager Simon Renshaw to intentionally deepen the rift separating the group from its fans. They're clearly shown planning ways to get the media to buy into the group's pleas of right-wing victimization, and trying to turn the anti-Chicks phenomenon into the band's defining element. That's it. I'm appalled. I've had it with these Chicks. The most remarkable thing about "Shut Up & Sing" is that although it's not a hostile documentary taking shots at the band, it reveals its members to be smug, arrogant and manipulative, intentionally growing the monster that cripples their career, then whining about it to the press.

I did see them. Again, though I did not attend either concert, and never said I did, what I did say was....All three television stations in San Antonio interviewed the soldiers. They showed the audience. They showed the soldiers. Many were just back from Iraq. My point was never to do PR for the chicks. My point was, how good it was to see the soldiers happy and enjoying the night at a concert. Any concert. I do not care who was performing. They were happy. And gave great interviews.

The ticket vendors had already announced the concerts, both of them, were sold out before hand. They would not do this if they were not sold out. They simply want to sell tickets. And I saw the crowd in San Antonio. It was certainly sold out.

If you didnt attend the concert how did you see the crowd in SA?

You are inferring that I am being less than truthful. And I resent that greatly. Again, the concert was covered by the television stations here. Three of them. They showed the crowds. They showed the soldiers. They interviewed the soldiers. And btw, when interviewed, politics was not mentioned by the soldiers. They were simply a large group of happy soldiers. That was my point. It was good to see. Especially here, where we treasure our soldiers and our bases.

I thought they canceled Houston. Or is that in some other state?

Well sweetie, I wouldnt go believing everything you see on TV. I once saw the tooth fairy on television...but as it turned out, she doesnt really exist and either did this "sell out"! LOL ;)

No. Houston is still ours. I am not sure that is a good thing. I said I know they cancelled at least two concerts because of a lack of ticket sales. It may have been Houston. I do not remember. And I really do not care. Not so much that I would have wasted so many key strokes had I known it would be insinuated that I am less than truthful.

No... this is what you said "They cancelled two concerts elsewhere because of low ticket sales. Did not happen in Texas. Sorry."

And low and behold...Houston IS in Texas.

Okay. I am done. I know what I saw. I know what was said. And again, I am not doing PR for the chicks. Some people have their knickers in a knot about their politics. I am not one of them. You have every right to be if you are. I never meant to offend anyone. You are entitled to your opinion. I have learned my lesson and will not post on another Dixie Chicks' thread. My point about the soldiers seems to have been lost. That is too bad. No matter whose concert it was.

I think y'all are talking past each other. DallasSun mentioned in post 42 it was covered in this morning's paper as well as on all three television stations with the emphasis being on the returning soldiers being at the concert.

I just posted what the local media had on the news. I tried to find the concert attendance, but no luck.

Me too. I can't find the numbers anywhere. I have doubts that the chix sold out in TX and more suspect that the local media gave them a "lewinsky."

Maybe we can pressure them to follow madonna, and that-other-one to England.

(I know: That's not a very nice thing to do to our allies.)

If the paper had been early enough yesterday, I could have settled the debate about the concert attendance. I read the Friday paper this morning, and there was a article starting on page A1 and continued on other pages. Here is what it said.

"The chicks played to over 9,000 fans at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin during one of the stops on their 50 stop tour."

The largest crowd ever was over 31,000. Normal concert seating setup has over 21,000 seats.

Yep. They really sold out in Austin. < /sarcasm> < dripping sarcasm>

The Dixie Chicks never played in San Antonio in 2006. They sold 9723 tickets for the 20k house in Austin. They cancelled 17 cities in the USA, not the 14 frequently reported. They also cancelled ALL OF EUROPE!!!!
See the wiki page for the tour. There is a T-shirt showing the original intended stops!
Thought you might like to know.
