Bush's Last 2 Years in Office: Will He Have to Acquiesce to Dems?

Posted on 11/10/2006 3:05:19 PM PST by headcase_1973

Well, three days later, and I'm still somewhat depressed over the state of my country. (I was first in line voting on Nov. 7.) I'll get over it, I'm sure, it'll just take time is all. Our President deserves so much better than what the Dems will give him. Any ideas on how he can turn this whole thing around? It seems the President is doing all the extending for a working relationship with the Democrats, yet they still attack him. They can't just disagree with him, they seem to have to hate him too.

No.

We have 49 Senators. They got to get to 60 to override a veto. Even if we lose the weak sisters like McCain et al we still got 44. Remember 2 of the gang of 7 got fired Tuesday.

To be honest, the republicans didn't exactly hand him his agenda on silver platter either. The world has gone mad.

When you lose in politics you go out and be a gracious loser. This is what the President is doing. He has class and respect for the office even if NONE of his foes have any class at all.

Now that they gave Bolton the finger out of pure spite, I suspect the President will do a few things to return the favor.

Minor point of correction, it takes 67 votes in the Senate to override a veto.

They need 60 to filibuster, not override a veto. And it was the Gang of 14, not 7.

Sorry I mixed Fillibuster with Veto. Thank you for pointing out that error. Spending WAY too much time here these days. :-)

We can make them get 60 by Filibuster or 67 by Veto and they don't got it. Certainly NOT with people like Webb who ran as a Reagan clone and a Vet. All thought I suspect most Dems still have not learned they cannot run as Reagan down home and hang with Ted Kennedy in DC.

7 Were Repbos, 7 were Demos. In regards to our Party, it is the gang of 7.

Intresting question. Where do the Democrat part of the Gang of 14 go now? I suspect they will forget all about their "Moderation" now.

You know what the 800 pound gorilla is here? The Dems won by a razor thin margin. Suppose they draft an amnesty plan and President Bush signs it, making millions of illegals eligible to vote. THAT may guarantee the Democrats could have control of the Senate and House forever. There is the usual hope that the Republicans may gain control again in 2008. Amnesty may prevent that!

You've brought up another 800 pound gorilla. The "moderate" Democrat part of the gang of 14 will probably happily revert to being liberal. And any of the remaining Republican part of the gang of 14 will happily join the Democrats in opposing President Bush. Those, plus the two so-called "independents" give the Democrats much more than a 1 point "majority."

President Bush needs to grow some big balls. He needs to get out his VETO stamp and go to work and face the liberals down when they start their "defund" the troops rhetoric. He also needs to make nothing but recess appointments after the Senate begins the 2007 term.

Hey don't give up. How bad could it be compared to who Bush has been acquiescing to since 2000.

Our president and his party shot themselves in the foot. Huge spending, no border control, wanting to legalize the illegals. I was pissed about all of it also. But, I still voted for them because they were better than the enemy.

One of these days in 2007, many Americans are going to see all the crap and chaos going on in D.C. and wonder why. All the fools have to do is be reminded this is what they VOTED FOR. D.C. is going to be a riot every day for the next two years.

Well, he can't make 'recess appointments' until Congress recesses. That may not be until next Spring or Summer.

It will probably be Spring before the first Congressional recess.

No way, I'll never give up. I too was disenchanted with my party, but I voted for them anyway. The alternative was (is) too scary. I still remember what it was like with the Dems in control.

Totally agree with you. It will probably be two years of subpoenas and hearings, a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. I really think America forgot what it was like with the Democrats in control. Maybe they just need to be reminded. Perhaps a good thing this happened after all? (Trying to see the big picture, or rather make the picture be bigger.)
