Prevent Defense loses again

Well, if anything can be learned from this year's elections is the GOPs 'prevent defense' in politics didn't work much better than your typical prevent defense in football.

The GOP just laid back and waited for the game to come to them. And they lost. Go figure!

Where they might have bundled election efforts and expanded the debate to challenge marginally held Dem seats (and cause some Dem efforts to defend those seats), the GOP focused on protecting a few chosen house seats based upon local issues and personalities. This in turn helped promote low turnouts in neighboring districts which became increasingly uncompetitive. Low GOP turn out in neighboring seats in turn caused the GOP to lose several statewide seats where broad statewide turnout is required...

Where the GOP Congress had plenty of opportunities to move forward on significant policy issues, they instead choose to spend their way into history with such notable (non-ideas) as funding a bridge to no where in Alaska. Might as well have been a bridge to their own future...

Heck, that old saw about "prevent defenses" goes way back. I think I heard in on "Monday Night Football" back when it was Dandy Don, Howard & Frank Gifford. Possibly it was CBS Football coverage with Summerall & Madden. Either way, it was a LOOOONG time ago.

I remember Dandy Don complaining about 'prevent defenses' and he was right then and it is right now. You go on the offense to win not sit back! I always get mad when I see a team I support go to prevent defense and watch the other team drive down the field.

Von Clauswitz, the 19th century German Military Strategist, said something to the effect that the strongest defense will eventually be overcome by the most inept attacker if the defender does not eventually counterattack. That's what we just saw Tuesday night.

I agree with you 100% on last night and what has been going on this entire election cycle. I have been mad for weeks at how this election has been handled by Republican leadership.

Everything said I totally agree with. But what happened in Georgia where they have a guy like Neal Boortz ? (Republicans won) I saw this comming and developed 1 page generic conservative pieces for key candidates using my website which I mailed (USPS) to 50 conservative congressional candidates (including Irey and Gratz). I also urged freepers to reprint the same pieces and pass them around in their respective areas. In Wisconsin they had the marriage amendment which passed by 59%, Republicans should have glued on to that "Yes"...it should have been in every congressional and state candidates handout, especially when its opponents (backed by Dems ?)tried to tell folks to vote no...more in my website http://theusmat.com/
