I'm serious, he's behind by 7,000 votes. There is no way a recount will make up that amount of votes. Are there a lot of absentee ballots to be counted or something? I'm really confused about this.
At least this one has a legitimate question instead someone's self important opinion.
Absentee ballots are counted in a central precinct on election day. Those numbers are included in the total.

In Virginia a recount is automatic if the difference between the candidates is less than .50% of the total vote. In this case some 2.2million votes cast. It's not that Allen is asking for a recount.
Personally, I think a recount would be futile, but by law Allen, his supporters and the state are entitled to a recount. It might be not so much FINDING 7K votes, as disqualifying 7K votes. The last precincts that came in and flipped the lead Allen held all night for the final tally, after some 99% of the votes had been counted, were from Arlington and Fairfax Counties.
Absentee ballots were counted, I think "provisional ballots" are the only ones left, and those are for people who weren't registered, like illegals. I think Allen should fight this one out but I think he will lose.
Allen's a good man, but got trapped by the media, who took a few quotes out of context. He'll be back, and will win next time around.
According to the link on Drudge, only 94.57 percent of precincts have been counted. Seems like it's not even a matter of a recount at this point but a COMPLETING of the count.
There was nothing out of context with that macaca quote.
I wanted him to win, but I do have trouble beliving he didn't know that was a racial slur.
I read earlier there is no automatic recount in VA. The state foots the bill if one is requested by the trailing candidate under the 0.5% threshold. The trailer can also request one at his or her own expense if the spread is 0.5 to 1.0% I think that's right.
And there are people who think there are unicorns and fairies . . . doesn't make it so.
I don't know but, a pinhead can create a lot of vanities.

I saw that info posted somewhere ... not sure if it's accurate or not. Last night around midnight at the State Board of Elections site, they were up around 99%, and that's when the lead flipped... between 99.16 and 99.26% of all votes cast. All kinda strange.
I think if Allen is sure he lost, he will conceed and not put everyone through an unnecessary recount, but he is entitled to wait until it is crystal clear that he did lose. If he did (as it appears).
Until the count is announced on Nov 28th there is no count to ask for a recount of.
Everybody is missing that the results we have now are unofficial.
Remember the McDonnell Attorney General race just last year?
He had a 3400 vote lead in the election night unofficial count. But in the official vote count- which his opponent did ask for a recount of- he had only a 300 and something vote lead.
I think he ended up winning by about 300.
It was not a racial slur by any stretch of the imagination. Have you ever heard "macaca" used before?
What hurt Allen, besides the Washington Post, was that he looked mean-spirited in calling the Webb volunteer a macaca. He was saying " this guy's not one of us". That went against the perception that Allen was a nice, optimistic person.
I am sorry he lost, but I share the sentiment that he would have been a disaster for President in 2008 (and I fully supported him).

I agree with you about 2008, but it sure would have been nice to hold the Senate.
I think a recount would be okay. The problem I would have is if he insisted on continuing to recount until he wins. With this close of an election, I think the people who voted for him deserve one recount. And then, if he's still behind (which I suspect he will be), he should concede graciously.

Well, I think it is partly Rove's fault, but it's not some kind of evil conspiracy, it's just stupidity. Those other years, it worked, he just thought he was invincible this time.
