I'd take Girardi or Ozzie Guillen up here in a NY minute. Takes the right blend of personalities to win under the glare, and one can't realistically expect the Yanks to pull it off every year. It's a product, not a promise. And, with or without Torre, it still sells.

Did I say something about the past?
I did mention something about #27 (that would be the future).

20 of their 26 wins came prior to 1963. Over the last 43 years, they've won "only" 6. Still pretty good, compared to an awful lot of other franchises.

None with the M's, but he got a ring with the Reds and the Nasty Boys in 1990.
Comparing the Yankees to almost any other org, however, is apples to oranges. You could "Bill James" the info going back, dividing payroll by wins, perhaps dolling up Wins Above Team or whatever, and Lou should be worth his salt.
An imperfect science, to be certain.

That's because most Yankee fans are transplants and trendites who love the boys in pinstripes when they win, but avoid them like the plague when they lose.
Nonsense. Ask most people who grew up in Manhattan, The Bronx, Westchester and points north, Connecticut or New Jersey who their favorite team is. Chances are they will and always have said the Yankees. The Mets are mainly Long Island's team (including Brooklyn and Queens).

The Yankees will continue to do what they always do. Buy themselves championships.
I'm sure they will go out and add 100 million to their payroll next year.
I'm sure they will throw more money than most teams have on their entire payroll to try to get Ichiro to play for them. And then throw 50 to 60 million at free agent pitchers.

All that money did them NO good back in the 1980s and in the 2000s, did it?

Do you REALLY want GayRod the choker on your team?
Then again, he would like it out in the Bay Area. I'm sure the fans will get "behind" him.

Westchester here (1965, White Plains/Valhalla/Armonk)... now living in the Lone Star State and a Texas A&M Aggie too.
Fellow Fighting Farmers I know think I'm crazy that I'm a Bronx Bomber's fan... to the core.
Best of luck Tigers... do the American league proud.

Joe Girardi couldn't even bring his team to .500. Most OVERRATED manager in baseball.
His team was the Florida Marlins, who were decimated by that loser Loria and the rest of their crooked management, who steal money from the so-called large market teams and don't even bother spending it on players (South Florida is small market - give me a break!). The Marlins were lucky to finish close to .500. Most people expected much worse.
Joe Girardi very well might win NL manager of the year.

Oh, THAT'D be a lineup: Pay-Rod and Bar-roid Bonds. The ego emissions alone would kill team morale.
Here's an idea...send A-rod back to Seattle. It would be perfect pennance for his atrocious behavior.

If anyone give an award to someone for finishing below .500, then I now understand why they give EVERY kid an award in little league now: "Self-Esteem."
Excuse my language but who's d-ck did Girardi s-ck to get all of this adoration?

Wins is wins
as Yogi Berra would say, and stats are stats which means that Torre was a winning manager while Piniella is a so-so manager (at best).

Soo true. YOu can go out and throw money at self-absorbed mercenaries with 0 loyalty, put together a +100 million dollar payroll that has a current or former all-star at every position, but if there is no chemistry, the potential of failure in the post season goes up dramatically.
The Yankees don't have chemistry anymore. Just a team of mercenaries.
