Interesting. The University of South Carolina was founded in 1801. I have no idea how or when they came up with the name Gamecocks.

And why not the Fighting Methodists? I kinda like that.

They keep saying the heat wave proves global warming.

As if this is the first time it happened.

It is hot in Atlanta also, 95-96 most days, but seems to be not as hot as in the past. We haven't seen those 95-101 days in several years.

We were off again and now we're on again. Let's see how long Detroit Edison can keep it on this time.

Nifong may leave Animal Control board

By John Stevenson : The Herald-Sun
jstevenson@heraldsun.com
Aug 1, 2006 : 7:56 pm ET

DURHAM -- District Attorney Mike Nifong confirmed Tuesday that he is thinking about leaving his seat on the county's Animal Control Advisory Committee, but he denied reports that he was motivated solely by the fact that some committee members had signed a political petition against him.

Nifong said he was equally motivated, if not more so, by the recent resignation of committee chairwoman Kim Willis and "a restructuring sort of thing" triggered by her departure.

"If we're going to make a change, now is the time to do it," said Nifong. "I haven't made a decision yet. I'm evaluating what the other board members have to say and how the board might be best served."

At the same time, Nifong conceded he was "fairly dismayed" by the fact that some committee members signed a June petition in favor of County Commissioner Lewis Cheek's possible election bid to take over as district attorney.

"It made me wonder if I was the right person to be on this board," Nifong said.

Cheek emerged as a potential district attorney candidate largely because of dissatisfaction, at least in some quarters, over Nifong's handling of the Duke University lacrosse team rape case.

After a lengthy period of uncertainty, Cheek announced last week he would not campaign for the job, but his name will be on the November ballot anyway -- a result of the fact that some 10,000 petitioners asked that it be placed there.

The Animal Control Advisory Committee is an eight-member volunteer group that assists the county with animal matters.

Nifong said Tuesday he didn't know how many members had signed Cheek's petition.

"I do not have any comment about the Cheek petition except to say people should be free to sign whatever petition they wish," he added.

If he leaves the committee, one of his assistants will be appointed to serve in his place, Nifong said.

"Animal control is a very important issue in Durham, and it is crucial that the [committee] be comprised of people who can work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust," he said.

Woman assaulted on Duke campus

Aug 1, 2006 : 7:53 pm ET

DURHAM -- A Duke student says a man sexually assaulted her Monday night in a laundry building on Central Campus, Duke Police reported.

The woman, 20, told investigators she entered the free-standing laundry building at 11:10 p.m., according to Lt. Sara-Jane Raines, Duke Police public information officer.

The woman left the building briefly. When she returned, a man pushed her into a restroom, fondled her and performed a sex act on her, police said.

The woman told investigators the man ran when he heard people outside in the apartment complex, located along Erwin Road between Duke East and West campuses near the medical center complex. She called police at 11:36 p.m. to report the incident.

She described the man as slender, about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with chin-length brown hair, possibly in braids and parted down the middle.

He wore dark baggy pants, an oversized, white T-shirt and a dark ball cap that resembled a trucker's hat with net mesh in the back. He is in his late teens to mid-20s, black, with a light to medium complexion.

Duke has reported an average of about eight forcible sexual assaults a year recently in campus, medical center and other buildings, according to crime information posted on the university's Web site.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Duke police at 684-2444 or Durham CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases. Callers may remain anonymous.

This may be worth opening a new thread on Gottlieb and the COVERUP in Durham !

NC Law is NC law. Right?

Maybe Not.

CARY, NC (15 minutes from Durham and Blinco's)

THREE CHARGED WITH ETHNIC INTIMIDATION !!

Cary — Police arrested one teenager and were seeking two others Tuesday in connection with a racially motivated assault near Lochmere Lake.

Matthew Salvatore Luongo, 16, of 103 Marvista Court was charged with ethnic intimidation and simple assault after surrendering to police for harassing a 15-year-old boy July 13, according to a Cary news release.

Police have filed warrants on the same charges for two additional suspects, ages 16 and 17.

The three suspects are white; the victim is black.

Police think the suspects played blaring music with racially-charged lyrics while the victim and his cousin were fishing at the boat ramp on Lochmere Drive in Cary. The suspects are accused of then pushing the victim and telling him to leave the area since he did not “belong” there, even though the victim is a Lochmere resident, police said.

Luongo was released from Wake County jail after he posted $2,500 bond.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this should erase ALL doubt.

43 yr Old Police Supervisors have a higher standard of behavior and conduct than High Schoolers.

This is ridiculous at this point .

COVERUP ! COVERUP !

Regardless of the name of the Bald officer - he should've been charged as the alleged Ring-leader. Obviously, the Police believed the Cook or they wouldn't have brought charges.

The above article outlines the standard for Finnerty and everyone else, everyone but one of Nifong's boys.

2. Duke requires 34 courses for graduation. [Duke is somewhat of an easy university as it requires fewer courses of students but claims they are tougher.]

FWIW, lab courses at Duke "count" the same as non-lab courses. Elsewhere the lab courses get you more credit hours - usually 4 vs 3. So anything in the sciences or engineering at Duke looks like it requires less work than it does. "Back in the day" it was four courses a semester for 8 semesters for 32 courses.

Two DNA tests are positive

The headline writer should be shot but the article is actually reasonably clear. I had not previously realized that there were TWO towels and the one with the sex DNA was not an indicted player but another house resident (Zash). Here's a question though

Another specimen matched to Evans was recovered from a towel found in a hallway near Evans' room and the second bathroom in the house. The towel also contained DNA from another person, and SBI testing has conclusively determined that the second specimen did not match the accuser or the 46 members of the lacrosse team who submitted DNA samples, Sutton said.

The article isn't clear but do I properly remember from elsewhere that what they found from Evans was not sex related? Seems like if it were they would have said. And that the non-lax player DNA found on the Evans towel was from a woman (not Crystal or Kim)? As in, Evans and a house guest shared a towel?

In Reference to Post 207 ( GOTTLIEB )

That Ethnic Intimidation in Cary - Cary is in Wake County.

The same exact County where the Cook was reportedly Stomped.

The Same D.A. that declined to charge the Bald Man!

File away for future reference :

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002916090

"NEW YORK A Democratic congresswoman from Georgia is suing The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for libel.

(snip)

"McKinney’s attorney, J.M. Raffauf, said the column describes McKinney whacking a police officer with her cell phone, a charge McKinney denies.

"The suit says that other facts were misstated . . .

"The suits says that McKinney wants an "immediate retraction in writing these false and libelous statements" and "demands that your retraction and correction be accompanied by an editorial in which you specifically repudiate your libelous statements."

I wonder if the Atlanta Constitution said anything about the lacrosse case . . . Nah. . . I'm sure they're responsible journalists over there . . .

"This has nothing to do with nothing. This has to do with 19- 20-year-old males full of testosterone looking for an outlet," Edwards said. "What this evidence tells you is that when you're walking around these guys' house, make sure you have shoes on."
N&O

That sentiment is not in Nifong's universe.
Males who act on feelings do not have sex with women in college. It degrades them and treats them as objects.

IOW 99.9% of college boys are potential rapists in the world according to Nifong.

As in, Evans and a house guest shared a towel?

I'm not so old that I do not remember visiting my husband (then boyfriend) at Georgia. He shared an apartment with 2 other guys.

I was very picky about what towels I used, where I sat, what I touched. And they were relatively clean and neat. Yes, I would have used his towel if necessary. And I would make damned sure it was his.

Being mentioned at TalkLeft :

The infamous "towel" involved here was found OUTSIDE
a DIFFERENT bathroom in the house, in a hallway. Evans' semen was on this. Mingled with this was DNA from
someone else, not a lacrosse player, and not the AV.

The semen found on the floor (or rug) of the infamous bathroom belonged to Matt Zash, who lived in the house.

Powerful evidence--NOT!

Will be interesting to see if the N & O reports on any of this. . .

The Evidence just gets weaker and weaker.

How about that Cary "Ethnic Intimidation" for playing racially charged lyrics (CD's) and a kid pushing a kid.

Notice how ALL 3 are charged?

This is the same DA - Same Laws - Same County as the Bald Blinco's Bubba. I'm shocked.

Anybody feel like sending a snail mail? Only takes a minute to write, to ask HOW SOON they are going to start investigating the doings in Durham.

ONE FBI agent walking around town would put the entire crooked lot down there on notice, that this lacrosse hoax is bringing them a lot of unwanted attention. . .

LOL the "terrible towel" had the DNA of 2 of the people living there in the house. Which brings us back to why the reporter tried to break this non story to begin with. Are we to believe he didn't know who's DNA was on that towel? If he didn't know who's DNA was on the towel, it isn't too hard to believe someone in the DA's office fed him this story to begin with.

It is obvious that 43 year old cops have more to offer than 16 and 17 year olds.
