It happened on the weekend of my high school graduation (little over two years ago).

I went up to camp the Friday night before the ceremony for the local Order of the Arrow (OA) lodge's spring conference. (OA being Scouting's National Honor Society)

Of course, it was revealed that I would be able to go through the Vigil Honor ceremony that night. While I cannot delve into the specifics of the ceremony--or what I did, I can say this:

-A strong thunderstorm rolled in overnight. Brought lots of rain, downed trees, and lightning struck about 10ft from where I was staying (it struck on the hill facing me).
-Obviously the frequent flashes, as well as the drips of water ended up keeping me awake all night.
-Stayed up and built a fire early in the morning to dry out my soaked gear.
-Went through the final ceremony later in the morning and was invested with my new sash and credentials in the morning.

Being that it was the morning of my high school graduation, we went to drive home.

Unfortunately, the camp sits on the north end of a lake, and there is a creek that flows into it (rumor has it it leads to a women's prison). The gravel driveway into the camp cuts across this. However, with the rainfall that came down the night before, the driveway washed out and was bounded by about 2.5 ft of water.

The camp director wanted us to play it safe and wait until we could find a way to get the cars across, but we were already into the driveway. We got through it all right, but it was decided that those coming into the camp would park their cars in the local town, bussed out to a tavern on the other side of the lake and ferried over via motorboat into camp.

Needless to say, it made for an interesting story to tell the people next to me--especially considering that even with a shower, I still smelled like fire and rain (and yes, I was asked about it)...

The gas cap?

Yep. I couldn't pass state emissions with it. OTOH, it only cost me $5 at Napa to fix...

As for the van with the shot tranny--ironically totaled it on the way home from the tranny shop (paid $400)...

Haven't heard from Kate. It's difficult for her to get around--and I've been busy--so it's understandable why she hasn't gotten back to us.

Hoping to have time to give her a buzz tomorrow during my lunch.

Hi WFTR,

I’m not sure how to respond to this, but I’m going to take a stab at it.

I really hate seeing people give up on finding a lasting relationship because they think their age is a barrier. You might as well lay down and die. There are 6 billion people in the world. If you really want to find that special someone, you will, if you take the time and make the effort to do so. If you really want it (deep down inside) then don’t give up!!! Who cares if you’re in your 40’s. There are plenty of single women your age who are also still looking. You’re not as isolated as you think. Finding someone takes work. The question is, are you willing to do what it takes to make it happen.

Yeah...I know what you mean.............I am pretty much in the same boat. Pushing 40 now(39 in oct.), and facing a lifetime being alone. It was my own fault, I guess, for allowing a number of bad experiences to cause me to become disinterested in dating, and pursuing women, and also, figuring that "God would send one my way, when the time was right".

It is too late now.Due to my "lack of experience", I am in the postion where few, if any decent women, even Christians, would be willing to bother. This has been told to me here on FR, on CM and other places.

My only hope is that the younger guys here do NOT repeat my mistakes........it gets lonely at Christmas, V-day, and so on!!

And it is ironic, too. Now, I have a bit of money to spend on a woman....and none to spend it on!!

Oh well.........More old Audio equipment, Tv's and radios, I guess!!

Nope, close. That's John Cleese doing his famous Silly Walk.

Here's Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson is one of my FAVORITE comedians)

John Cleese? IIRC, he was the guy who was R in the Bond films, except The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day--where he was Q.
