DALLAS -- A man who was electrocuted while on a telephone pole allegedly was trying to steal copper from it, police said.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, died Sunday afternoon, when he cut a live wire from the pole in a vacant lot, said Sr. Cpl. Jamie Matthews.
The case is being investigated as an accidental electrocution, she said.
Police have blamed a rise in copper prices for increased theft of the metal.
Shocking, I tell you, just shocking....
On the other hand, surely this marks the loss of another Democrat voter, but a dozen votes will now be cast in his honor (and using his name).
I blame imbreeding: "Hey ya'all...WATCH THIS!" BZZZZZZT!
Yeah, and the biggest target source for the copper, according to the local news here in Dallas, is the copper tubing in air conditioners. Scarp metal dealers are now having to get photo id from people who sell scrap copper to them, and some Dallas City Council members want an ordinance passed to require proof of where the copper came from before it can be sold for scrap.
I live in Dallas, and we've got a major problem with homeless people stealing metal of all kinds, including entire air conditioning units. Someone came into my backyard last month and stole my two decorative pressed aluminum garden benches that I'd paid over $400 for. Of course, the police never did anything; didn't even come by to talk to me about it. They did eventually send me a note saying they had no leads, which is what I would expect, considering they did no investigation whatsoever. I haven't replaced them yet because what would be the point? God, how I wish we had a Guiliani type running this place.

Once again, the liberals are totally wrong on the death penalty. This is one case where the criminal will no longer be a threat to copper.
Nope.
Aluminum is used with large diameter long distance wires on really high towers for really high voltages, but lower down, closer to people and homes, they revert back to the safer and more efficient copper.
Have you been to the forums at the darwinawards.com site? They speak of Chomsky as a genius. They hate America, love terrorists, despise conservatives, and love homosexuals.
They left out it's society's fault and it's Bush's fault
AM radio uses buried copper wire in a spoke pattern around the tower. A kid in Sacto once was stealing the copper (hammering the signal) and damn near lost his life when he pulled the buried wire all the way to the tower to cut it. One touch of an AM tower and he would have popped like a balloon.

Usually it's only the really big one's that they run high up, that and the modular conduit busses they use in high rises sometimes.

You got my vote as best post of thread.
I'll say to you what the paramedics said about this thief:
Well done.
Was he a meth user/maker? That's my guess.
Something like the great copper clapper caper, except it's completely different.
