I live in Dallas, and we've got a major problem with homeless people stealing metal of all kinds, including entire air conditioning units. Someone came into my backyard last month and stole my two decorative pressed aluminum garden benches that I'd paid over $400 for. Of course, the police never did anything; didn't even come by to talk to me about it. They did eventually send me a note saying they had no leads, which is what I would expect, considering they did no investigation whatsoever. I haven't replaced them yet because what would be the point? God, how I wish we had a Guiliani type running this place.

I once had something stolen from our office. The thief robbed every office in the building and had a master key. There was a lead suspect - a disgruntled ex-employee of the janitorial service. The detective called me and said he was actually trying to solve the case because he unlike most burglaries, he thought this one was solvable, but he had not been able to question the suspect because the suspect's car was in the shop and the suspect could not drive down to the station for questioning. What a surprise!!!! It was never solved.

We are having a problem here with people going on to construction sites and stripping the wiring from houses while they are being built. On new subdivision was hit earlier this month and 6 houses under construction were stripped clean of wire and pipe.
