Indy star Danica Patrick has hinted lately that she might be willing to give NASCAR a try. Although I believe the hints are nothing more than her gaining a little leverage as her contract with Letterman/Rahal expires at season's end, I'm still going to offer her a little advice.
Stay where you are, Danica. The Indy Racing League needs you.

That's really offensive...and insulting. Jeff Gordon is not gay, and people who maliciously insist on saying he is only diminish themselves. But perhaps a little humor make the point:
The ABG'rs guide to NASCARThis is a guide to help the fledgling ABG'r (Anybody but Gordon) quickly adjust and get up to speed on the latest techniques in the art of rooting against Jeff Gordon.
When someone wrecks Jeff Gordon:
_ He was blocking
_ He deserved it
_ That's racing! Get out of the way or go home!
_ It was an accident
_ He's gayWhen Jeff Gordon wrecks someone else:
_ He ALWAYS wrecks everybody
_ That's dirty racing!
_ NASCAR lets him get away with murder!
_ He did it on purpose!
_ _____ _____is going to pay him back
_ He's gayWhen another driver is angry at Jeff Gordon:
_ He's absolutely right
_ He's very justified in being angryWhen Jeff Gordon is angry at another driver:
_ He's whining
_ He's crying
_ He's gayWhen Jeff Gordon is not penalized:
_ NASCAR never punishes him!
_ He's their golden boy!
_ He cheats and gets away with it
_ He's gayWhen Jeff Gordon is penalized:
_ About time!
_ See? This proves he cheats!
_ He's gayWhen Jeff Gordon wins a race:
_ He cheats!
_ Anyone could win in those cars
_ Throw things on the track; beer cans are preferred
_ He's gayWhen Jeff Gordon doesn't win a race:
_ He sucks
_ Anyone else would win in those cars
_ He's gayWhen asked how long you've hated Jeff Gordon:
_ Since his first race
_ Since he started beating my driver; ooops, I mean since his first race!
_ He's gayAll fans of my driver are:
_ Dedicated
_ Knowledgeable about the sport
_ Fans since he was bornAll Jeff Gordon fans are:
_ Bandwagon fans
_ New fans who don't know anything about the sport
_ Fair-weather fans
_ GayIf a driver, crew chief or owner says something negative about Jeff Gordon:
_ He's in Cup, he knows what he is talking about much more than fans do.
_ I've always liked that guy.If a driver, crew chief or owner says something positive about Jeff Gordon:
_ He's an idiot and always has been
_ He's talking the NASCAR company line and is afraid to say what he really thinks
_ Ignore it and hope no one brings it up
_ He's gayNote: These can vary race to race. If, for instance, Ryan Newman says he enjoys racing against Jeff Gordon at one race and is mad at him at a different race, the angry comments are the only ones that will be considered valid.
If your favorite driver wins a race under caution:
_ Hey that's the way it goes ;you have to be up front when it counts
_ It's my all time favorite raceIf Jeff Gordon wins a race under caution:
_ The fans were cheated
_ Throw things on the track, beer cans preferred
_ He's gayWhen fans throw things on the track after a Jeff Gordon win:
_ They are voicing their opinion
_ They are not half-witted morons
_ They are not an embarrassment to the sport of NASCARIf Jeff Gordon fans ever throw things on the track:
_ They are half-witted morons
_ They are an embarrassment to the sport of NASCAR
_ They are gayNote: This one hasn't happened yet, but it never hurts to be prepared just in case.
When Jeff Gordon hasn't won something:
_ It is the most important thing a driver can do to prove how good they areWhen Jeff Gordon wins something he hasn't won before:
_ Anyone could win it in that car
_ He cheated
_ It was fixed
_ Hes gay
Awww, that's so cute: your offended AND insulted.
I've hit the Perfecta!
You forgot...and LAUGHING MY BUTT off at you. :)
Scary stuff, that.
Nope, didn't forget it. You didn't mention it.
You know you want her over there....she would be pushed into the wall all season
Jeez. Danica's going to go to NASCAR. It makes too much marketing sense not to. Women are going to eat it up when she's challenging the Good Ol Boys around the tri-oval in her hot pink Betty Crocker Tampax Ford.
Madison Avenue will not be able to keep their hands off of her. She doesn't even need to win a race (remember Anna Kournikova?). She is going to be the hottest thing on four wheels.
Two groups of people will strongly oppose it: 1) purists who remember the Richard Petty/Cale Yarbrough days and think NASCAR has already gone too Hollywood for their tastes. 2) fans of other drivers who are scared that Danica is going to hog the spotlight away from Jeff, Junior or Jimmy, etc.
Nobody's afraid she'll actually win but that isn't the point. It's all about the dollars and the dollars here are too big to pass up. Once NASCAR sold out to their sponsors, something like this was bound to happen.
It's going to happen so just lay back and enjoy it.
Her Husband is her Father? That is odd.
I repeat what I said earlier in the thread ... she has the skill set to be a dominant female golfer; the problem is that some people are trying to sell her as something more, as evidenced by pushing her into PGA events now, and IMHO that does her a disservice.
She's obviously not ashamed of them, though. One of them's in her book, which is an interesting read BTW. Like Jeff Gordon, she's another one who's been groomed for doing this (racing, not posing) since childhood.
There are folks making a good living in NASCAR right now who have never won and probably never will win.
The second she entered racing it officially became a gimick ala wrestling.
She is a spokes model pretty face.
If NACAR is dying and needs some form of PR stunt then perhaps they could use her help.
I slightly touched on this in another post in the thread, but if you haven't heard, Juan Pablo Montoya, who won the Indy 500 for Penske and has won I think six F1 races, is moving to NASCAR full-time next year and will be driving for Chip Ganassi. What's the opinion on that? My .02, again, is that while he'll certainly have to make some adjustments and face some growing pains, and I'd be stunned if he was competitive right out of the box, he actually has a track record of winning at top-level competition and IMHO will have a better chance of at best, ultimate success, and at worst, not embarrassing himself, in NASCAR than Danica would.
Think you nailed it, GB...what are they afraid of?
The woman who had the best chance of anyone at succeeding in Cup racing was Shawna Robinson. If I'm not mistaken, she's still the only woman ever to win a NASCAR championship level race (Dash series in the late '80s, I believe). I think, and a lot of other people who saw her drive thought, she had "it" and could actually do something in the sport. But she got out of racing to do other things for a long time and got back into it a few years ago and was absolutely horrible. Call me sexist if you will, but I think it was because she'd had several kids during the decade she was out, and I don't think a mother with kids at home is going to push things to the ragged edge on the track like a man would. I'm not saying that to insinuate that a woman can't drive a race car, just making the observation about Shawna's specific circumstances.
