The Elite Eight!! The quarterfinal round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany gets underway Friday with a pair of highly-anticipated matches. The hosts kick things off against Argentina in Berlin (10:55 a.m. ET; ESPN). Italy will face Ukraine in the day's second game (2:55 p.m.; ESPN2).
Two of the quarterfinals are rematches of championship games: Brazil-France (1998) and Germany-Argentina (1986 and 1990).

"Die, Gauchos"????
Seems rather harsh.
:o)
BuHuHaHa! I still got some cans left. ;-)
Putting on the cover of a magazine made it MUCH more masculine, didn't it?
What does it mean? Please translate for us.
I believe that either of both teams will be the new world champion - or maybe Brazil. Advantage Germany, not only because of the "12th man", but also because we´ve played the last four times very well, and Argentina disappointed against Mexico (and maybe even against Holland).
It will be really, really tough and exciting, because no team simply stands at its defense line, both are attacking.
Have a good night and we all a good game!
17pm against Argentina - We World Champions believe in you - Today we let Argentina cry - Klinsi, crash the Gauchos.
No, I have no idea. I don't speak a word of German. But when I read it, it LOOKS like it says "Die, Gauchos." (I think 'die' means 'the.'
I was just making a silly joke.
It proves that magazine editors think it's a good photo :)
This is what I got via computer translation:
"Lashed out we allow to weep Argentina! Klinsi, crumple the Gauchos."
These guys? They don't look like wussies to me. You can't fully appreciate how these courageous souls have to put up with the agony of falling onto a grassy field. It's a wonder that they all aren't crippled for life. /sarcasm
Don't worry.
After a great game, Germany will go though.
I will miss Messi, but look forward to seeing England beat you in Berlin :-)
hehe.
I have always liked the straight talking Aussie style :-)
BTW: Did you head about the Chinese commentator?

Cheers.
My predictions: Germany and Italy advance to the next round.
Not unless we can leave Beckham on the bench and one Argie to be chosen later. After '98, I couldn't go through that again.
"Face it. The German team has had a absolute cakewalk schedule till now."
True. However, they looked much better than England when playing the same teams (i.e. Ecuador and Sweden). If you look at the eight teams still in the tournament, Germany would certainly deserve a spot in the semi-finals.
To bad only one of either Germany or Argentina can advance.
True, Argentina and Brazil are still the favorites to win the cup, but I would rank Germany at least on par with Portugal (that is, if the team is complete) or France (judging by the impression they made during the last game, not the less-than-perfect games before that) and slightly above England, Ukraine (Wtf are they doing in a quarter final?) and the Italian team, which so far has played atrocious football.

A cover that quite accurately describes the situation.
(And is there anything worse than not having beer to drown your sorrows in?)
By the way, I read your comment that says you think you still have plenty of beer. I just don't think Germany would ever admit being low on beer (it's like admitting that the oceans are low on water). And I've heard that the English fans have just warmed up.
Greatest means greatest.
If you are respected and recognized by a vast majority of this world - then your probably a World Cup Winner.
Can't get higher then that.
This game is the Endspiel.
Let's rock.
