Heh... very cute :~D The pony does look like my old Bay when I've set up small jumps :~D
Good morning and may you all be very independent today!
You should see me bean plants! They are almost to the top of my teepee! Not producing yet, but the plants are a lot of fun!
Squash vine borer got my hugh pattypan squash. I tell ya, it was 10 feet across, just gorgeous that morning, then that evening it was just a heap of dead leaves. I took pictures. I'm in the last few minutes of an auction...I'll post the pictures in a bit. We even got a picture of the borer. Steve sliced open the stem and there were two borers.
Very disappointing, it was producing beautifully. The only squash I have left is the straight neck yellow. So far so good with it.
Yesterday, something (likely Fiver) pushed the netting in and ate a few bites out of my ripening tomato. Ate it right through the netting! Rascal!
It's cuke time for sure now though...we get a couple or so every day now. Corin's trellis idea worked great (though I used t-posts, not pvc.)
Homer's glowing eyes DO look a little stoned. Bless his little heart!
Good morning!
Steve just left...took the boys for a hike.
*Sigh*
Bottom end rot on the maters along with some broken vines....squirrels or rabbits? Some blossoms are dropping off my zucchini. At least the catnip and lemon balm look good.
That rot is caused by a lack of calcium, if I understand correctly...work in some hydrated lime.
I've got 20 minutes left to go on this auction. I'm going to wait till the last minute then snipe it.
People say it shouldn't matter, you just put in your pre-determined max bid and forget about it. However, I have done that, outbid someone, only to have them reconsider, re-bid and get it from me. Now, I still have a pre-determined max bid but I don't give the person the opportunity to reconsider.
Hopefully.
Beware the catnip. One of these year's I'll write a Stephen King-style NanoWrimo tale about my catnip plant. *shudder*
That's on the todo list for next year. Alas.
Got some red-white-blue blondies in the oven for the get together tonite at MIL's. The red are dried cranberries, the white are white choco chips (the kind made w/ cocoa butter), and the blue are blueberries from last year's crop.
Just before the live music started, SirKit went down to the car in the garage to return some of our picnic things, the umbrella, etc. The kids and I were kind of just lounging around; we were about 6 rows of people from the front of the deck that overlooked the river. All of a sudden we heard the crowd behind us began to ROAR!! We turned to see what was up and a Stealth Bomber was flying right over us!! It was awesome, and so nice to see people so excited about seeing it! It flew right over us, right down the center of the Charles, and as it passed the Hatch Shell and park, over the simulcast, you could hear THEM screaming with delight! When it passed them, it banked and flew north over Somerville and Malden. It was one of the most exciting things I've ever seen. I was so worried that SirKit had missed it, but when he got back, he said he had just come back out onto the roof deck from the ramp down to the garage when he heard the folks at the back of the deck start yelling and saw them pointing up, so he looked up and saw it too.
After the Stealth flew over, we got a simulcast of the concert from the Hatch shell, just down the Charles River from us. The crowd on the roof and at the Hatch Shell was very lively and sang along to all the songs we knew. The 1812 Overture is ALWAYS a hit with the crowd, though, and the Pops uses real cannons as accompaniment. When you're watching on TV, they always show the cannoneers doing their thing; it's fun! We'll have to watch it tonight!
That was a fun night, and we had the best seats in the house for the fireworks because you could not only see them being shot from the barges, but you could also see the reflections from the glass sides of the buildings in downtown Boston. The only downside was that we got lost somewhere in Somerville on the way home. It took us over an hour to find our way back to the Pike!
In 1987, we took Paul and David to DC to watch the fireworks there. We got there early and were able to be close to the Capitol Building and could listen to the Symphony being broadcast to the crowd. The fireworks were wonderful! That was fun, too, but getting out of town, again, was AWFUL! It took us an hour to walk, with the crowd, to the Metro entrance, then another hour to ride back to Gaithersburg, where we were staying with SirKit's sister and her family.
AMEN, brother!!
yeah, I know...just don't have any on hand right at the moment.
...found a gnawed on a fist-sized green tomato sitting on the ground.
I hate varmints.
Heh, SirKit is a seasoned eBay sniper. He doesn't even bother bidding early on; doesn't want to let other bidders know he's interested. He gets the wierdest things on eBay, but he's found some great things for fitting out the cargo trailer for hauling our worldly possessions. At least we won't look like the Beverly Hillbillies rolling down the road. ;o)
Heh, cute!
Sounds like a great sight indeed, to be surprised by a stealth :~D
I want to make one of the front planter boxes an herb bed. this year I was going to do catnip and parsley, but the rabbits ate all the parsley. I pulled out the rhubarb that was there and replaced it with the catnip.
Problem is that the soil is very dead...no earthworms or insect critters running around in there at all. It's going to be the most favored spot for the compost when it's ready.
It was a sight to behold! Clare and Joseph still talk about it!
Am sitting here listening to the TTT soundtrack. "The Fields of Pellenor" is vey patriotic, too!
Independence Day snaig!
