The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The funny thing is that he was trying to be provocative to get discussion going ... but... we all agreed with him so there was no arguing. The Army is pretty conservative. Heh.

Heh, it's hard to provoke when everyone is in agreement. I guess someone could play 'devil's advocate' just to get things rolling.

LOL! Thanks for the morning laugh, Corin! :-D

We watched Patton last night. I'm ashamed to admit I'd never seen it. What a terrific flick!

Alyson has her open house today, so I'll be taking her to school later this afternoon to meet her teachers. We're all very excited.

Aaack! School. We're not ready.

We missed "fee night" at the high school Monday. Sure they'll still take the money, but parking is full. Wife is going to beg today.

If that doesn't work out, we'll have him park at our friend's house near the school. Still, it was a major ooops on our part.

Heh...at the college, people always ended up parking on the grass for the first few weeks.

But the end of the semester, enough kids had dropped out or started skipping classes that it wasn't a problem anymore...

Not that I'm recommending that approach, mind you.

Well, what happened last year was that he didn't get parking as soon as he got his license. But he did shortly thereafter.

Enough kids lose parking for truancy or discipline offenses that there will be spaces opening up.

But, as a senior, he ~shouldn't~ have to wait.

I don't know if I've mentioned it, but one of my biggest problems with the school back in Miami is that it had ZERO parking for parents.

They had a small faculty parking lot and that was it. So parents were forced to park wherever they could (and risk having their car towed) or just drop off their kids in the front. It wasn't that much of a problem for Becky, except when she was in kindergarten.

I was not about to leave a 5 year old on the sidewalk and hope she made it to class OK. :-/

The school here has better parking. The school however is scheduled to be torn down next year and rebuilt to open in 2008. So poor Aly will be starting kindergarten in one school and then attend the following years in the rebuilt one.

A wee bit confusing, but it should be OK.

Patton is one of SirKit's favorite movies... "Rommel, you magnificent bastard!"
Patton was definitely a soldier's soldier!

"I read your book!"

Ramius and I laughed and laughed over that line. Just beautiful.

You guys think you can make it here before noon on Saturday? Bob and Kay's Jessie is going to join us too at noon, expecting to go to the corn maze :~) She's about Becky's age, and I think they'll have a great time, though Becky will probably be bummed to meet yet another friend that lives too far away.

I don't see why not. We'd like to get on the road as early as possible so we hit better traffic. :-D

Honey, what do you think about getting up and out by 10am?

You've seen him, you just don't know it. He was Mr. Kent in Superman with Christopher Reeve, certainly you've seen that!
