The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I use to have a summer job in a Kroger baker. Could make those little icing roses and everything. Some young punk wanted my to draw a marijuana plant on a cake as a joke and was surprised I hand no idea what one looked like.

Party part was pretty fun, but then it was followed by all the exit interview paperwork. Not quite as fun, that. :-\

Just got a couple things to finish up, then I'll be heading home.

The One Shoes now reside in the West.

But they long for their Master to the East. If I send them that way, they may fall into his hands once more!

OH YEEAAAH!!! I forgot about TRISMS!!! I will go refresh my memory. And good to know they have the daily lesson plans...I decided I needed to have that grunt work done for me. I spent more time trying to design the lesson than teaching it, and I got real impatient and frustrated, because what sounded like a good idea would end up confusing her or boring her. So figure if I could just find a straight cut program....

Im also going to be mixing and matching with stuff from Calvert (I like their science kit) and MAYBE A Beka again..not sure...there is a local HS family that has set up a 'private' school that offers 6 weeks of "how to organize and study" which I thought would be good for the both of us. Im going with sonlight because they ARE using SWB's Story of the World for their history and I used it this past year...was very helpful in that regard. It was just planning out evreything else that drove me bonkers...Am also switching to MathUSee cause Saxon is starting to get a little too repetitive for her.

Definitely need to look at TRISMS again!

Well, I've gone and done it. After 10 years* of procrastinating I've just joined the Philmont Staff Association. I worked there summers back in college. If you know Scouting at all, it's Mecca. I'm also setting a personal fitness goal to get in shape and go on the staff association trip next summer. I've got a *lot* work to do.

* the 10 years part *really* freaks me out.

You can print out a sample lesson plan from their site. I can't remember what grade your daughter is in this year. "History Makers" is designed for the Middle School years, but what a lot of folks are doing nowadays is doing that one over two years in the 6th and 7th grades, to get the kids used to the research needed for the program. "Discovering the Ancient World" is then done in the 8th grade, moving into the next program each year until the 11th grade, then spreading "Age of Revolutions" over the final two years of high school. It's quite a bit of information

Yeah, the Committee Chairman for Joseph's troop raved about Philmont. I know that some of the boys were starting to think about fundraising to pay their way there when they got on up into high school.

A whole year, you can do it! Make some goals and some sort of plan. That helps to keep motivated. At least it has for me since I started this triathlon kick.

Encourage them in any way you can. A Philmont trek may be the single most authentic and formative experience a Scout can have.
