I don't know. The one I added was a Western Digital from Dell if I remember correctly.
Those are good prices, aren't they?
I have to pay to have everything put in, the extra hard drive because I added it later. In order to use the USB 2 ports, I had to have a 4-plug (well you plug into them) card put in. I'm ok for now. As far as I know, those are both good brand names.
Thanks for the headsup. I suppose I would have to find out what mine are.
The 40 gb (C:) says SG340016A (that's what was highlighted, there are other things including WDC below it). The 80 gb (E:) says the same thing.
When I really start to run out of room, I'll have to take a look at those. Thanks for the links.
Fat thin cords at the top are ATA 100/133 cables, the thin red cables on the bottom are for SATA. :)
I doubt if I'll ever get the time, but if I were younger, I would try to learn the hardware part of it. I've watched guys do it, just get out a couple screwdrivers and 5 minutes and my old hard drive was out of my old computer (never crashed, wanted to save it). But if they add hardware, they have to tinker with the bios, find the right drivers, get them installed correctly. Sometimes that can take longer and you are on their clock :-(.
I kind of envy people who are confident enough to build their own computers and buy their parts off the shelf, just what they want. I wouldn't know what tower to start with and I don't know if my current one has room for any more internal hard drives.
I tried learning DOS and what some of this is, but I would rather put my energy into getting the most out of my software.
I love these little passport external hd's. At least I can figure THOSE out, and you have to watch what you are doing when you are copying files. I have messed up more than once.
ATA, SATA, now I know what the are supposed to LOOK like, but I don't know the difference or what the letters stand for. I'm not ashamed to admit it either.
I build my own systems.. its easy. Just read the Motherboard manual, take your time and if you have questions ask online in a online computer forum, most people are willing to help.
I have ME 'running' on an old PIII HP laptop right now. When it finally fails for good, I'm moving EVERYTHING to Linux, including my two desktops. I looked for all the support Microsoft had, and HP had, for that OS, well before Microsoft announced they were ending support for it, and they both informed me that ME simply had problems with a particular PCMCIA card dock in that laptop, and neither was at all interested in fixing the problem--even though the laptop was "designed for ME."
HP and Microsoft can kiss my fanny if they ever think they'll get my business again.
Sounds like it would chew up the tape.
Where do you get that? That sounds like easy reading. Not.
I'm frustrated because my sweet peas do not like the skinny bamboo poles I put in the ground for them and I have to turn my thoughts to figuring out what the heck to use, like tomorrow, without spending a lot more money on garden stuff. And I hate chicken wire.
Motherboard
Motherboard Manual, Driver disk, ATA, SATA and floppy cables and SATA power connecter, back plate for case...
Well, I figured out what to do about a trellis. I will have to get some chicken wire and just anchor it on the ends of the things that stick out from the front porch with bricks and heavy stones. That's going to look worse than your motherboard . I simply do not have time to mess with anything else right now.
I've got a lot of things going that are not going well and it's a big worry. I can learn about motherboards this winter.
Just follow the manual and it explains how to install everything... Processor, memory, video card(IF it needs one), setting up power/reset switch Etc...
Sometimes when people patiently try to explain things, it just doesn't make sense though unless it's something you're already somewhat familiar with. I'm thinking about the guy who told me how to make planters out of my birch logs, buy a frame saw, drill holes in the corners, logs don't exactly have corners, take the saw blade out of the saw and then put it through a drilled hole and fasten it back in the saw, see what I mean? I need a schematic and clear, concise instructions. Believe me, I've given up on that project for now. Bought some planters at Goodwill. Will get some more there now and then. Funny thing, they had this ingenuous planter made out of cut, curved pieces of some kind of tree limbs but I didn't buy it because the binding was cheap plastic and coming out.
I'm so tired I can hardly think straight. Time to quit for the night. You've been a great help, and your enthusiasm is almost contageous.
its sort of like building a model car(but easier), all you're
really doing is sticking parts and cords into slots, its really not that hard... I enjoy it
Well, all my email inbox got hosed again, so I am reconfiguring that. I lost all my email for the second time in a month. Needless to say, I am more than annoyed.
Had to think a little bit about CC's post - I'm sure it was intended as sarcasm (i.e. like a politician - saying one thing while meaning another.)
So, I'm a little slow today...
Right, CC?
yes, like in the post where the bad guy comes to the house pretending to be a gas man there for a gas leak where no one in the area has gas, one of the replies was, "did they fix the leak?"
