Nifong press release and email...

The only thing that gives me any hope at all is that Himan duped this judge on the warrants. Stevens wasn't very accommodating to the defense last time. But judges don't like to be taken advantage of. Hopefully he will do the right thing here.
If he has any self respect he won't let Himan get away with playing him for a fool.
" Filan says AV spit out DNA on the floor."
During the False Accuser's ID of Seligman- she said " he was the one who stood in front of her."
Nifong demonstrated how Crystal was held in an upright choke hold-her arms clawing at her attackers.
I could never figure out how Crystal was supposed to felate Seligman, while both were standing upright, she also in a fighting,
clawing upright choke hold ,while simultaneously being raped ,beaten and sodomized from behind.
Unless Kim brought a ladder into the bathroom for Seligman to stand on ,
after which Kim subdued Crystal while the 20 or two or three lacrosse players raped and sodomized her and
then Kim raped her with a broom and then robbed her and beat her and kicked her out of the car.
After which Kim dragged her into the car and called 911 and then asked the cops to drag her out of the car.
You are right Stephens does not need to show character. He needs to show brains. This case has gone from a political plus for his boy Nifong to a huge liability for Nifong and Durham in general.
Stephens acted dumb in the first setting but clearly as our "Mike Nifong" has showed sure knew a lot about that phone that the real world Mike Nifong was not even sure the police had.
I was not at all impressed with Stephens in the first hearing on this case. I went in neutral towards him and came out suspicious of him. But hopefully he can see that keeping this case going will only make matters worse.
What they need to do is drop the charges. Destroy the evidence of whatever it is they are trying to hide before a civil suit is filed and hope the world soon forgets about Durham.
5 people in the bathroom during a rape......... The defense should put out some pictures of that bathroom.
I hope with all my heart you are right.
If Judge Stephens decides that this case can impact him personally - and sees where it is going -
What are the chances Nifong charges the Bench when it's tossed?
(we have seen some really weird stuff here in this case).
Will Nifong face a future of screaming in the street whenever he encounters a white man in a black robe?
Mike, do you have any take on the alliances in the Durham Court System? Are they all part and parcel of one mindset?
I'd love know what the water cooler talk was in the courthouse on any given day.
Can a judge dismiss this case for lack of evidence before it goes to trial? I hope so.
Stevens might just stop the entire fiasco now. Not because he has character but because a lot of money depends on it.
It's pretty obvious that a lot of drug activity is going on in Durham. It's hard to have 'business as usual' with all the media and private investigators snooping around. The sooner this case is resolved and people like Bill Bennett turn their attention to other matters, the better. Then it's back to $business$ as usual.
" The defense should put out some pictures of that bathroom."
One of the talking heads said recently that the bathroom was in the rear of the house.
When the FA picked out one of the players from the coached line up- she said that she remembered him because she looked out the bathroom window and saw him talking to Kim.
Kim said she stood outside by her car talking to the players.
From the pictures we have seen of the house-the car had to be parked in front of the house -far away from the back bathroom window.
So either Mangum has x ray vision or she was looking out another window or she is lying.
And how did she have time to casually look out the bathroom window when she was being raped, beaten, sodomized ,held in a choke hold, kicked and robbed by 20 lacrosse players ??
And Kim must be a time traveller because Mangum said she helped with the rape ,while at the same time that she was outside talking to the players.
No. I do know that Nifong used to work for Stephens and they are good friends.
The core of people in that Durham system has been around for along time. Almost all the Judges also came out of UNC-Chapel Hill law school too.
I don't have any personal knowledge, but that inner core in Durham - it's been characterized as the Old-guard. People are recycled - not too many new faces.
Nifong worked as Stephen's chief assistant. It's no secret they have a friendship and run in the same social circles.
Now that would be interesting - if Nifong charges the bench. I'd pay good money to see a video of that.
I'm just wondering about Nifong's health. Could he be acting this way because of a medical problem? Or maybe Durham is so corrupt he's always acted this way and nobody ever noticed.
Pay Per View - me too.
I just think Nifong is suffering from 27 years of inside deals and no accounting for his actions. It's no secret that office lived off plea deals. The investigators in the case also have a reputation for forcing plea deals.
So, things generally don't get to trial. Don't face the light of day.
It's my opinion, Nifong thought he could apply enough pressure to these kids through the usual tactics and he could claim victory without ever going to court. I think all those extremely unusual public statements were an attempt to get the players to agree to a plea deal.
That's what I was afraid of. I would feel more comfortable if there was bad blood between them.
I am sure working in a courthouse is no different than working in a hospital or any other large company.
There are alliances, power strugggles and lots of back stabbing.
Friendships are formed and enemies are made.
The subculture is about power and payback. And all have a pecking order.
I'd love to have the inside scoop.
I don't mean that Nifong will be really surprised by this. It will be worked out in advance, just as the fake surprise and worries about 3rd party privacy was worked out in advance before the last hearing.
Nifong was a nobody for so many years. IIRC, when he came back for sick leave, he was demoted (for all practical purposes) to traffic court.
When Hardin became judge, Nifong was appointed DA. It seems a strange path to take.
I wonder if Nifong feels he has old scores to settle for the years he was in traffic court and why in the hell did he get the appointment?
Someone on the CourtTV board said that Stephens has two other brothers on the bench, maybe at a higher level. They thought this spoke well of him. I responded that I was from a similar sized state and we have more than one family making up the judiciary.
I really really wonder how good an idea it is to have brothers hearing appeals of each others rulings?
