The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Who in the heck started that throw candy crap anyhow? I think it is such a distraction. Kids with big bags, just there to scoop it all up. Guess that is what a parade is all about to them. Boy, I am getting old.

We had another storm again. There went my yard work

I would GLADLY give up yard work for a little rain! Going to be in the 90's the rest of the week and less than 10% chance of rain and we are soooo dry already. We have lost 1 tree so far and will have to go this weekend to get hay. I cannot remember having to buy hay to feed in the summer time. We always have enough pasture, but not right now.

A parade without tossing candy to te crowd is just not a parade. I can't remember a time when we didn't. Maybe Texas started the bad habit:')

I don't mind being the one doing the throw...but when they throw it back and your on a horse, or if some other horse person doesn't have good aim....It can be a rodeo:)

Speaking of water trough, yesterday when I was taking the picture of the white horse another border came running up yelling. One of the big barn dogs was sitting in his water trough. She was yelling "get out" and I was yelling "wait. I need to get a picture":')

Being as I have not being doing any shooting, I might as well get rid of that stuff.
That's a wicked bummer! Reloading bullets is one of my favorite things about shooting. I used to do it all the time with my dad when I was a kid. I've been trying to get my Class A license to carry concealed, but sweet lord all the red tape!

Thank goodness that I don't, but I certainly send out prayers to those that are going through that. I just saw some pictures and it looks pretty bad.

So, how do you treat a bowed tendon on a horse?

Stall rest for two months up to eight, depending on how well a horse can tolerate such a thing, with handwalking, and cold hosing to reduce swelling. I wonder if it's too late for that guy, I've never seen a leg that looks like that, but I've only delt with one horse with a bowed tendon, an ex polo pony.

Are you glad to be retired? I can't wait but my husband retired in March and he is starting to get bored. Of course he isn't into horses,so he has nothing to do other than woodworking. And that I think is getting old too. He is one of those guys that once he starts a hobby he beats it to death and then gets burned out.
I have 2 yrs. to go......I'm really looking forward to it.More time to spend with Waylon !!

Cindy, I bought a halter-bridle combo and for the life of me I can't figure out what goes where...did you have a hard time too?

LOL, I have one too, and there are alot of straps:)

It's just like a halter only it has a throat latch, and a browband. I took the browband off mine.

There should be rings on the check straps that's where the clips go to hold the bit in.
