The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I finally got it. I can't believe I was letting her graze with the bit and was trying to figure out what was still wrong. She was really good. I had no problem putting the bit in her mouth. She didn't care too much for the adjustments though, but it never fails . I had an audience. Everyone thought it was cool though and wants one too.

One of our heelers doesn't care to be brushed though he will tolerate it. But he loves to sit on the steps with us and let us pull handfuls of hair out - odd but it does work. And it goes faster than brushing.

"I just came in from mowing. I have the yard all done. Time to mow the pasture again, but the kids have borrowed my weedeater.....everyone really likes it, I may have to start charging....the charge will be they can mow my pasture:)"

You have grass to mow????? Nothing here and I mean nothing. We're turning into a desert.

That's a great looking bridle!

I hate doing something new with an audience. Unsolicited advice is one of my biggest pet peeves.

On the white horse found in the ditch, his front left looks like a big bowed tendon. Is that the one he's lame on?

Yeah. I had too many hooks and clips, I guess. I couldn't believe that I unhooked the reins instead of the bit though:')

It's injured. He steps on one leg and kind of hops with his back ones. He's a fighter though. He used to just lay on the ground and stretch his neck to his feed and water. He developed skin breakdowns and fluid pulled in his back leg. Plus he was cut up all over. Maybe a car hit him. I don't know. Anyway, then he started getting up and just standing and then a few hops. Now he slowly goes maybe a 100 feet and back. Limited mobility has put some weight on him though. He was a skeleton.

With Bay, how well his face gets washed usually depends on who can get taller.

I know what you are saying and while you are trying to get up ther water and sudes is dripping down your arm into your shirt.

Remember that horse that was found in the ditch?

I must have missed that story. Was he hit by a car? How long ago was he found in the ditch?

I would have to go back to my posts but it seems like it has been about two months. It was a little before Frog's stray showed up. He was found laying on the side of the road in a ditch. He was covered in his own feces and couldn't get up. I don't know how long he had been down or wandering but he was skin and bones with scapes and bruises everywhere and a bad cut on his front leg.

Well, I got the saddle on...whew, it's a chore. It took 3 times to get everything on straigth, mainly because he kept wanting to eat the grass. I put my saddle rack out by my mounting rock. By standing on the rock and having the saddle up on the rack I could throw it up there with one hand. But I had to hold the lead rope with the other to keep him still. The blankets kept getting all crooked before I could get the saddle on...

I'm sweating like a hog now:), so I'm cooling off for a few minutes. It won't hurt him to stand tied out there:).

Congratulations :~)

Too bad we didn't get pictures of the scene... Course, if there was someone there to take pictures, there'd be someone there to help with another hand :~)

I see Ruthie is on her way:). Lord, talk about a multitude of emotions she must be feeling, scared, excited, happy, sad, nervous....she has to be experiencing the whole gamut. I don't think I could do that:)

He was found laying on the side of the road in a ditch.

And no one ever claimed him? I just cannot imagine loosing one of mine and not searching for them. Makes me want to brand my phone number on their butts!

I can only imagine too, the whirlwind of stresses and emotions she's feeling. I was at the receiving end of the last move, I just had to wait at the gate, with my skirt blowing in the breeze :~D ecurbh might understand better :~)
