This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Heh... I don't. Someday maybe :~) Don't know where we'd go if we hooked her up :~)
Well, you and hubby could take a moonlight ride together. Heck, if you're going to hook her up to a cart, might as well live dangerously and do it at night :)
Why not :~)
That is a hilarious story... just got around to watching the video!
Got to almost feel sorry for the guy :)
Heh... He tried to run away and they pulled him back in.
"So did he get any kind of ticket or fine for that?"
I don't think so but the FAA is investigating.
The girl in the last barrel racing clip had to have been hurt. The horse landed right on her head.
Dusty has never pulled a cart before? She looks like an old pro in those pictures.
I've always wanted to teach Tuffy to pull a cart.
I'm so frustrated. Trying to be patient but the horse is confined, can't ride, and I worry about the darn mass breaking off and him choking on it.
Argh!
Going to be a cloudy, rainy day again today. I took the new horse out for a bit yesterday, to look around. That was between rains. The mosquitoes were out in full force, even in the afternoon. He snorted a lot. His name is Toby, but we have a cat named Toby, so I am going to call him "Bodie". Amy had one of the new mares in the cross ties last night, right in front of "Bodie". He has only been gelded for two years (he is seven) and they did use him for a stud. Well, Amy said he sure acted like he was still a stud. Maybe, I should call him "Studly"
~shudder~
Good morning!
Oh, that looks like fun:).
The horse did great.

So he snorted a lot, and acts studly, but did you have a good time with him? :~)
Good morning:)
We are having beautiful fall weather here. Cool in the mornings, and warmer in the afternoons.
"Studly" :)...He'll probably stop doing that after he's been there awhile. Harley was a bit studly when we first brought him home.
I think I'll get Harley out tomorrow and ride a bit...just for fun now, no conditioning rides:)
Becky
Did they say that was a possibility???
Hoping the wait is over soon.

That's a scary video. And the narrator should be forced to ride a hard-trotting horse without stirrups for thirty minutes or so, just to adjust his attitude.
My driving story isn't exactly about my horse being driven . . . a bunch of people from our barn were out at the Conyers Horse Park, riding the Olympic 3-Day Event course, just to say we'd done it. (The course has been completely neglected, because that stuff is way too big for any ordinary horse. We kept looking for something small enough to jump, just to say we'd schooled on the Olympic course . . . but all the small stuff had hedges which had overgrown horribly . . . no luck.)
Anyhow, a bunch of harness eventers were out there practicing. We came over the hill, and a pretty chestnut was between the shafts just trotting along. It was a black competition 4-wheel drag, and the wheels had bearings that made a soft whirring sound. Our horses took one look at that and had hysterics! Even Gracie was snorting and shying. A couple of folks came off.
Best I can figure, they thought the cart was a big black monster that was in hot pursuit of the chestnut and was on the point of devouring him!
