This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I imagine all those people felt it the next day.
I've often wondered when watching videos of wrecks, horses, cars, motorcycles, how those people and relatives felt about having things like that put in "blooper" videos....I guess it's not worse tho then when murder victims families have to see pictures of the victims shown on all the news stations:\
Becky
Sometimes the victim in the video is the one that sent it in for the thousand bucks :~)
But I always cringe in those blooper videos when everyone laughs, and what they're seeing really hurt! Or at least could have been really bad. There was one on a show once where a bucking horse broke out of the arena and ended up jumping right on a car, smashed it, and kept going, the horse was in a sheer panic. I just shout "THAT'S NOT FUNNY!" That's a horse, and rider, and bystanders that could all end up killed!
I've had one head-butt me in the face, but never quite that hard!
I am so glad we took those two mares in.
FYI, Not heard of a rabies case in a long time.
Tennessee health officials contact hundreds over rabies case at horse show
NASHVILLE, Tenn. Tennessee health officials have sent letters, cautioning about a case of horse rabies, to 42-hundred people who attended the annual Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration in Shelbyville.
A horse from Missouri began showing symptoms of rabies on August 28th and had severe neurological problems in the following days before being destroyed.
Health Department Medical epidemiologist John Dunn says the letters were sent out yesterday to people in 34 states, Canada and Germany. They went to people whose names were on lists of exhibitors, trainers and owners registered at the show and people who purchased reserved tickets for the event.
The letter asks that people contact the department if they believe they had direct contact with the infected horse.
Dunn says the chance of rabies spreading to people or other horses is rare. Rabies is transmitted through the bite of infected animals. Dunn says there's a small chance of transmitting it if a large amount of saliva got into an open wound or there were saliva contact with a person's nose, eyes or mouth.
Health officials believe the horse was bitten in Missouri and didn't show signs of infection until the animal arrived at the Celebration.
Jeepers! Is that the same show Frog reported all the disqualifications from earlier in the week? Not been a good week for TWHs.
That is the one and the same. Not good at all for TWHs.
We really ought to do that, we just have so little room in the tack compartment what with saddles and show stuff and buckets, etc.
I'm trying to remember what all the Purina rep told us. It seems like Amplify has high carbs so it would give them next day energy. Sort of like eating a pizza the night before a football game. Lots of carbs. I'll have to go to the Purina website and check the ingrediants.
I'm sorry you're still waiting on Duece. That has to be maddening.
I agree, that looks like great fun :~)
Anyway, Bob said, when show season is over, we'll teach Dusty to pull the cart. So this afternoon they pulled Dusty out of the pasture, hooked her up to the cart and headed down the road. She didn't spook once, took to it like she'd been doing it for years and even dealt with David learning to drive :)
Fabulous. Driving is fun :~) Drove my stallion in Arab shows.
Wouldn't our pony ~love~ that? :~)
Did you see this thread? Hilarious.

Well, that's always been the question, whether we'd sit in anything that was strapped to that pony :~)
Does she ground drive? If I remeber correctly, you can't pony her from another horse?
She ground drives great. I've done a lot of that with her.
She can't pony because she drags. She's not lazy, it's some kind of mental block we could probably get her over if we tried.
My keyboard is starting to stick (maybe caused by eating Popsicles this summer) and along with my spelling, my posts are likely to get totally incomprehensible.
Do you know anyone you could borrow a cart from? That would be cheaper than buying one until you find out if she can handle it.
