This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Cyn was running in too, but I didn't get her in those frames, I couldn't fit them all :~)
We grew up with a ping pong table, but haven't played in years :~)
Hmm... horse juggling issues....
Well, it sounds like you and the seller are both in agreement, just need to decide how much in agreement. Good luck :)
5 or 6 miles.
My horse issue of the day, Bay's losing weight and I don't think he has any to lose, he's got ribs, and his topline and butt's getting bony... Probably just the switch to the crap hay. I'm gonna increase his grain a little, until that hay's used up. The mares are both still fat.
Not a problem, she's not a beginner. My niece isn't either but she's much more timid. My great niece is fearless but she's the beginner :)
If this isn't the one, I'll find another. I'm just tired of looking though.
Stormy and Harley are so funny when we are riding. When we first start they do OK, but when Stormy gets tired, he gets cranky. When we ride side by side he'll pen his ears and fling his head over towards Harley. Harley will pen his ears back. Like a couple of kids:) I guess here at home this is Harley's territory, and he just decided to get even:) He started this little altercation, so he's grounded.
The wire I ran in Rocky's pen cuts off about half his run, it also makes going into his stall just a narrow pass. He's pretty hot wire wise, so he figured it out, but it was funny watching him the first few times he went in and out. He'd almost look like he was sneaking, then he'd get so far and run the rest of the way...when he would come out, he'd get out then sling his head around like, ha ha you didn't get me...now he's going in and out just fine..

However you look at it though, the land is a good investment.
He says his dream is to go live in a cave in Mexico when I start talking about mine:') He used to like being out in the country. His job takes a lot out of him now though. He's happy, coming home and playing a little poker. I worry about him.
That's not too bad...
There's pro's and con's to boarding and not boarding. I know I wish every year in the winter that I could board the horse. I hate feeding in the cold. I might not mind so much this winter after the summer we've had tho:)
It would be hard to have them unattended that far tho too...We've done that. We use to keep our brood mares down on the land were the kids live now. We had to go feed every day...it's a pain...but paying board bills would be too...
I hope something works out for you...How far is the stable?
Becky
Is he anywhere close to retirement? Maybe that's what he needs. Or a change of career.
The stables are about a mile or so down the rode. I could still go there if I wanted. I'm just wanting some space. I'm tired of carrying my tack in the back of my truck. I don't like chasing off other horses to get to mine or not having places to tie them, or emptying out pens to use them. I can't set stuff up the way I want . The the list goes on and on. I will be giving up some comforts and security though. Family says they will help out but you know how that goes. Ideally, I could do what Estrogen does but I would have to go back to work full time.
I used to push that but all we did was fight. He likes what he does. I know this sounds bad but he does his thing and I do mine, and mine is definately not working 24/7 at some job:')
How close are neighbors to the twenty acres?
I was wondering if there was someone within sight - across the road is good who you could pay to watch the horses more or less and feed if necessary. A teen would be good :)
That's an idea:')
There's something to be said for nosey neighbors.
I used to have one like that. You have to take the good with the bad. She watched our place but dang, she was nosy. She would tell you so too:')
Cloudy and cool here. I have to get up early now and get Alison on the school bus. It's good, then I can get started on work around the house. We started on the garage yesterday. Shelves are up, now I have to transfer stuff from the old bench. These kids have so much junk! I swear, if my SIL gets a new tool, my daughter has to get more tack. Clutter stresses me out. No, Hair no pictures. I would be too embarrassed to let you guys see this mess...
