This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It does seem a shame to waste good green grass!
More then likely he was sore just because he wasn't use to that. That climb was a pretty good/hard/steep climb.
There are more rocks there then I was expecting, not a lot, just more then your past pictures showed. I don't think I could ride one all the time barefoot there. Mia did great, but she was very careful in places...Riding one all the time that carefulness can get annoying, when you're trying to make time. She's been barefoot awhile too, hasn't she?
When was the last time Cyn was trimmed...if she was longer then normal, that might have been why she chipped a bit. She didn't look critical to me, in fact pretty good after that ride, Mia too. They both did very well, foot wise.
Becky
When is she going?
Susie is still being joyous:). Sticking very close, and seems to have more energy then ever:). Everytime I get up to do something we have to stop and play tug-of-war:). I missed all my people, but I worried about Sue. She is also enjoying being able to get out of the garden. I guess everyone was afraid to let her out of the garden, thinking she might take off looking for me. I really don't think she would have done that, but I'm glad they were all thinking...I'd say that was more the issue of her suddenly having accidents in the house then my being gone. She's use to going out in the yard, not the garden.
Mack did very well taking care of things around here. He even thought to water the garden and feed and water the birds, which I hadn't asked him to do. I left him enough without piling on the little stuff.

Cyn's never been shod. And they're about four weeks since trim. You're right, I think if you're going to ride like that all the time they should be shod. I don't think there's a horse that wouldn't get sore if they did that all the time.
Those little golf-ball sized rocks in the path are the worst part. They don't last a long time, but the rocky places we do have, they can't avoid. I think the places that are graveled are easy going, but will wear them down just like sandpaper. We'd shoe Cyn if we did that alot. But once we do, we can likely never go back :~)
Gidget's appt is at 4:30. Glad everything is good there, and happy for Susie.... I know you were worried about her.
Meaning the 15 - or further... She does fine on doing the 8 once or twice a week :~)
You meant Mia didn't you? I think this is either the second or third year she's been barefoot. She did better than I've seen Kat do on that stuff.
Oh, yeah, I meant Mia. She did very well, but I don't think she could do those types of rides any more often then what you think Cyn could either. It would have told us a lot if we had went out the day after....You could have told real quick how much they would have tolerated.
Chris comes tomorrow to shoe Harley. I'll probably ride Sat. morn. The forecast looks like it's going to cool back off to the 90's then:).
Becky
"Cool back off to the 90's" she says...
Here comes my rain
Good for you:). We have slight chances later this week...
Becky
LOL,,,well it's better then 104.
I just put up some fake hot wire around the yard. Just can't mow it. It's thicker, and greener now then it has been all year. Of course, I'm going to have to monitor how long I leave then out there. Looks lush enough to give them colic...I figure a couple of hours.
Harley is out now. I'll try Rocky later, but he's not good about grazing when he's out. He want's to charge the panel fence....I don't get that...it's not like him and Harley don't always share a fence line. But something about being "out" makes him want to hug the panel fence...So I'll just have to try and see if he can be out there.
Becky
That was it? All that noise for that? Maybe 5 minutes lol. Oh, well, the plants probably aren't complaining.
That's about the way it is around here when it rains in the summer. It almost makes things worse because the humidity shoots up....but you're right, the plants really seem to like it.
Becky
Yeah buddy, it's a steamer now. I just went out to give Cindy some tamales and it must be at least 10 degrees hotter.
Hey, thanks for posting the link to all the Saddle Moot pics on your server. I really liked looking at them all!
